Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
My U20 had a valve seat dislodge and next week I should have the Roadster back on the road. Two questions: 1) is there a suggested RPM max and mileage period schedule to retorque the head? 2) to be safe as I bomb around, where is my reasonable redline once the break-in period is done? SU carbs, stock everything inside the engine
For inquiring minds I was VERY fortunate in that the only damage was the seat falling out...and yes, I am having all 8 seats replaced, and no, I don't know the history of the engine

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
What is the preferred setup for a 67.5
I have a roll bar with headrests and cant get the seats back far enough
The roll bar also presents an issue with the top (top frame scratches the rollbar, preventing me from wanting to carry the top when out on a run)
So my q is keep the roll bar an deal with no headrests and top issues or forego the rollbar and keep the the headrests and topframe?
What is the general consensus?
TIA

I have a factory bar. I don't have those problems.

C.
I dont see how adjusting the bar would accomplish all the issues
I would think either bar or no bar would be the only choices

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
You can put some thick clear split tubing on the bar where the top scratches. With the top up no one sees it. With the top down , just take it off.
Check OSH, Home Depot etc

Re: The Quick/Small/(Stupid?) Question Thread.
If you have the same seats as my 67 2000, you might be interested in what the PO did with mine, which I love. They were cut in the middle of the bars and rewelded so they are more forward and upright (and actually usable!). I'm tech stupid so it would be easier for you to pm me your cell phone number and I will text you a pic, if that works for you.

I think as far as street cars go he has been pushing the limits of the U20 redline more then most. Hits 8k passing M3s up the front strait at Laguna Seca and probably went higher on a 5th to 2nd downshift I once heard about.

The way that you describe you problem is that it is too high, and to far towards the front of the car. Why would shortening and moving towards the rear not solve your problem? I would be cutting the mounting plates off, shortening the tubing to the workable length and welding new plates on.

...ummm...I just want to have the car as a reliable daily driver, not a screamer ... so would keeping it under 6500 be safe?AidanDawn2000 wrote:

Yes, Ralph. Contrary to some opinions, you don't have to bump redline every time
