New addition to the family... 1972 510 Sedan

Post by Datsun.David »

Well, I suppose it was only a matter of time...

Built L18 with twin 40 mm Webers, and a dogleg 5 spd. True Watanabes.
Interior is terrible - think a mountain of velour and beige.

Paint is fresh with some imperfections, but the car was originally green.

It is a beauty. I need seat belts for the back so that my girls can ride. And new seats for the front so my wife doesn't whine... the existing seats are completely sacked.

Anybody know if 350Z seats would fit in a 510? Or a roadster? I have a line on a nice set of orange stock 350Z seats... then I could redo the bench in the back to match...

Tragically, this meant the sale of my 69 2000... which, actually, is fine. A great local guy picked it up - he ironically, already owns a car I bought more than 20 years ago...

Upside is, now I am forced to drive my 67.5... she needs to have her legs stretched...

Congrats! I love the 4-doors. Cant go wrong with Watts. But (in Obi-Wan voice) This isn't the 510 you are looking for. I was expecting a certain white, SR-powered 2-door

Yes in the 510! These were extremely comfortable:

In the roadster, depends on what your definition of "fit" is. I have a pic of roadster with them from JCCS I can post later

orange seats and a green car :what are you , Irish?

I think I have somewhere in my collection of belts some rear seat belts out of a 510

The blue 4 door you saw last visit has Pathfinder seats .

Ross, the 350z seats are more like a "peanut butter" color. Maybe Dave is going for a tan/green vibe like the E36 M3 Boston/tan combo:Image

They look yummy! Although, knowing Dave, he wont let me eat peanut butter sandwiches in his car once the seats are in.....

Alvin - you are on the money. The car has chocolate brown carpet... I think the seats should look great - sort of a Reeses pieces vibe on the interior! I seriously tried to justify buying Eric's car and thankfully, for my marriage, this one came up in town and was a great deal... I think. There is no comparison - I hope to one day own some of Michael/Eric's handiwork. I should have something with a swap... just to round out the inventory...

Michael - thanks also for the confirmation! The existing front seats are soooo bagged that sitting in the passenger seat hitting a bump results in a stiff jab in between the shoulder blades... something is definitely exploded inside there... annnnnd... my wife wouldn't even sit in them because they look like a 70's cream coloured barco lounger with - a velour/vinyl/button hybrid.

Ross - I am part Irish. But, regardless, you can eat peanut butter in my car any day Amigo.

I need to redo the door panels too as unfortunately, they are rockin' the same velour/vinyl puffery...

Alvin - excellent advice - Ross called me and told me the same thing. They ran a second fusebox to handle the loads for the heaters and some of his other gadgetry. I don't think I need the rocket launcher or the ejector seat though...

The seat heater current is not as high as you might think, about 3-4 amps on high or 2-3 amps on low per seat. The temperature regulator ensures the current remains moderate, i.e. no cold start inrush current. Wiring the controls in the consol was problematic as I should have used 18 gauge wire instead of the 14 gauge. Weak engineering!

All heaters will draw slightly different current, so if you need a precise value, connect the heater and controls to a battery and measure current. Easy!

The other control switches seen in the picture are not for a launcher or ejector seat but for more useful accessories I installed like the power top and AC!

Alvin: Your abliity to recall and retrieve roadster detail is amazing! With such eidetic memory ability you should be making guest appearances on the "Big Bang Theory"!

Dave, love the exterior colour.
By the way, there's a set of R32 seats, similar to the ones that Alvin posted, on Vancouver Craigslist.(red dots not the brown)
