Midwest newb

Post by piezoman1 »

Well, I popped my post cherry over in the classifieds section, so I figure I might as well go ahead and do an introduction post. I've been halfheartedly looking for a 311 for a little while now, and just browsing here and there when I'm bored at work mostly, but I've decided it is time to get serious about my search for a project car.

I'm a Pac NW transplant to the Midwest, so one of the issues I'm beginning to realize living here is that there is a significant shortage of anything remotely resembling late model cars on the roads out this way. Needless to say, options in my neck of the woods is essentially zero. Curse you, road salt!

I have kind of run the gamut of various vehicle obsessions through my limited years - Harleys, G20s, G35s, Yota pickups... - and have finally come back to the more timeless classics, of which the Fairlady embodies so well.

So, that's where I am. Not necessarily wanting to jump into something that will ride it out in my garage for years on end before I'm able to enjoy it, but more of something I can tinker with while I get to enjoy it. Of course, the longer winters here would also allow for more intensive work to be done as needed, but the intent is to have something suitable for use as a DD (during appropriate weather only, of course!).

Anyway, I'm glad to have found this forum, and from what I've seen so far, it appears to be a great community, full of more knowledge and skill than I could ever imagine. I'm sure I will be able to learn quite a bit, and be able to put it to use when I find my first 311.

Thanks,
-Paul

Welcome :)
Our fearless leader , Steve, is in Iowa I think.
Maybe a Midwest meet one day can happen, hope so.
Lots of knowledgeable people on here, and most questions are in the archives somewhere too if you can find it. Check out the Tech Wiki too for info.
Check Craigslist for cars, and eBay.

Welcome! I am a newb myself from KC. Hopefully we can put together a tri state or 4 state meet sometime in the near future.

For what it's worth I might be parting with one of my project 311's.

Welcome and good luck with your search. There was a fellow selling three roadsters from Wyoming a week or so ago. Not sure if any or all sold or what is going on with that. You might check it out. The '69 he had looked pretty good overall. You are right there are not many roadsters for sale here in the rust belt. We should look at doing a mid-west event. Not as many twisty curvy roads here as there were in Sonoma County but I am sure we can make it work.

Nice. I've worked for an EOD robotics company for the last 10 years. It has been an awesome time developing new tools for you guys.

Welcome Paul, there is a 69 2000 on the Tulsa Craig's List for $8500. Not much info and only one picture, but looks decent in it. If you get REAL serious about it I can probably put eyes on it for you.
