Accessory power for stereo?

Post by camronware »

I'm trying to figure out where to tap in my accessory power line for my stereo. This should be a line that gets power only when the key is in the 'garage' position. Any thoughts? thanks!

I hooked up my stereo using the wire from the stock radio, which only goes on when the key is in the accessory mode. For the hot wire, I connected it to the horn fuse in the fuse box.

I've always just connected the hot wire to the battery in other cars...obviously the fuse would be easier, but which side of the fuse did you connect it to? The horn fuse is the top 20A correct? (I don't have the label, I got that from the wiring diagram)

I just wrapped it around the left side of the clip that holds the fuse.
The horn fuse is on the left side. You can check which fuse by elimination. Pull each fuse until the horn doesnt work. I chose the horn fuse because it is the item I least use.

The 'garage' position is off. It's the same as "lock" but not locked. You need a key to be in accessory.

Alright, got it...
Hot power from the horn terminal, and acc. power from the wiper terminal.

You can buy a nice terminal that crimps on and lets you "tap" a fuse or bend a flat connector to fit around. If there is no fuse on the wire to the radio, make sure you connect to the side WITHOUT power when the fuse is removed.

well I'm leaving the stock radio wire out of it...i'll just tap into the fuse box. Which side of the fuse is safer to connect to?
