BikerMike's 1972 240Z

Post by bikermike »

A few months ago I bought my neighbor's '72 240z that was last on the road at somewhere between 15 and 20 years ago. After a fair bit of "garage therapy" for the Z and for me, today was the first day since it was parked in his garage that it saw the open road and had a full tank of gas. My goal was to get it drivable today since it was the 1st day of the 2017-18 registration period after being "non-op" status for years. Here's a pic.
image.jpeg
Some details:
May 1972 build. Estimated 110,000 miles on chassis. Original blue plate CA car.
Kilimanjaro White on Red. Resprayed at some point when hood and side stripes were added.
ATK Rebuilt L28 swapped less than 50k miles ago mated to stock 4spd.
Dual SUs. 3-2 headers and 2.5" exhaust to Borla muffler.
Suspension Techniques 1" front sway bar, 7/8" rear sway bar, lowered springs.
Enkei Mesh wheels wrapped in new Kumho 225/50/15 rubber.

To get her to drivability today:
Full braking system flush and overhaul: New master cylinder, booster, drums, shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, rotors, calipers, EBC green pads, braided SS flex lines.
New front wheel bearings.
New tires.
New battery, starter and cables.
New fuel pump, drained fuel tank, replaced all rubber lines, cleaned carbs.
Fresh oil and filter.

There is still more to do as I go through all the systems. Needless to say, I am pretty happy to now own a driveable Z as a stablemate to my Roadster.

That is sweet. Nice score. I love the early Z's. I need to drive mine more this year.

Good looking Z! Wish they'd continued the roadster, but the Z was a cool replacement. Mike

72 240Z is the best year in my opinion. Rear axle shafts set straight with rear wheels...and I am biased because I have owned two in my Datsun affection...sold one a few years back...the flat spot on my forehead will likely never heal as its a recurring injury.

Although, i am Glad it went to a good home.

Congratulations Mike!
