Looking for Roadster friends in Los Angeles

Post by Lalanda »

This is probably a futile and rude request but...

I bought a 1970 1600. I don't even drive yet. A friend was selling the car, and I wanted it to go to a good home... mine. So now I have it, registered, insured, and of course it decided to stop running.

I have no idea how to work on this car. Or any other car. I would gladly like to learn. Is there anyone out there willing to teach me? In trade, of course, for my help working with them on whatever they're working on. It would have been nice if my father had taught me how to work on cars, but he never learned himself. So, that's my request.

I live in Van Nuys, in the SFV. I'm 28 and English and good learner. What do you say?

I maybe able to give you a hand, as long as your schedual is flexable. I'm in torrance,, so i'm not exactly next door. There are plenty of roadster people in the valley, And Dean at Fairlady is also in the valley for parts. They are easy cars to work on, as most cars in the 60's were. Just have to learn the basics,, you'll be fine.

My .02 cents,

Keith St. George (tycorcr1) spl-08001 still in the garage,,still in boxes, still have an empty wallet.

Lalanda-

You've definitely come to the right place. I don't know if you've been around this forum much before, but you'll find the people here friendly, knowledgable and helpful.

Congrats on your acquisition. And welcome to the wonderful world of the Datsun Roadster!

If the car was running and stopped running suddenly, it will be easier to find the problem and fix it than if the car ran worse and worse and finally stopped.

First and foremost, don't feel ashamed to ask what you might think are "stupid" questions. We all had to learn somewhere about cars, and in my case my dad was very much into fuel economy rather than performance. So ask away! I don't think anyone here will make fun of you for trying to learn about cars.

I had a 67.5 1600 and just loved it. I autocrossed it from 1970 to 1978, and had to learn about most everything about it myself. Unfortunately I made a stupid decision and basically gave it away when I transferred from L.A. to Utah in 1983. (smiley kicking itself in the bum)

If you want to take a stab at fixing it yourself, go ahead and ask. We'll help. :D

I bought my roadster recently too. When I was doing my research a couple of months ago, someone gave away a free red roadster (body and paint looked good from pics) to a non-profit org in the Valley or maybe Ventura area, then that org. put it up on ebay. I wonder if it was that car?? Well, it had a blown engine or head...
