1970 Sold today on eBay

Post by Pjackb »

I was following this bid mostly out of curiosity

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-Datsun-Other-/222360858701

What do you guys think of the price it sold for?

I consider eBay car sales number prices as meaningless because buyers can default.
You don't know if it REALLY sold or not.

Wow, seems like a very nice car at a very good price. I liked the write up, guy seems forthcoming. I think someone did well.

I agree Linda, but by the same token, bidding stopped where it did. Let's see if it comes up again. But IMHO, not having seen it, fair price for a good car.

Also keep in mind that 70's usually bring 1000's less than other years - especially 67.5.

There isn't a good reason for it other than personal taste/aesthetics, but it seems to bear out. Many 70's were great cars so it isn't rational (taste in aesthetics never is).

But if you look at the numbers produced towards the end, it became a diminishing supply. Seems to me that the 67.5 2L is the benchmark if one is considering desirable/collectable as more bang for buck, but as Ross has recently pointed out, he has 11 310 to part out.
I am recentl realising if I were to replace Eliza, I would go for a short w/s - but you gotta have a special car - mostly - to hit the high notes - so many are modified to the current owner's taste.
Rarely, IMHO, currently are these more than FUN, desirable, perhaps collectible, but a hoot.

My primary dislike of the '70 is the big front turn signals and the large rear reflector, both of which can be modified or removed. When I did my "friend" Tom's black '70 we came up with some really cool front running lights that also had a turn signal in them to replace that front turn signal (looked really good and worked great). Did the same or similar light to Damn-it Bill's Black '70, which more owners may recognize or remember as Bill does the photos for Shasta (and hands out lots of tequila to help grease the skids for voting!). I think the rear markers had already been removed and replaced with the earlier small version on top of the tail lights like all the other yr cars. I think it helps a lot.

The 1970 cigarette pac style turn signals are ugly to me too but a lot of folks bank on the 1st and last years produced being the cars to hold on to.
I thought the car sold for a fair price and if your looking for a good bodyed car to enjoy I think the buyer did well.
As far as restoring all these cars parts are expensive the brake parts are way out of bounds compared to a lot more expensive cars.
So you have to keep in mind what will the car finished bring.
I sold my 1969 2000 survivor (nice car) for around the same price as the 1970 to get into a 1967.5 2000 unmolested original paint car, that cost me double of what the 1969 sold for - NO REGRETS - I love #235.

I have a 70. I'm 6'2" and I just don't fit in a low windshield car. The top of the windshield blocks my line of sight. I don't like the side markers, so I shaved them off. Same with the rear reflector. I added the reflector above the tail lights because I like the look. I like the front turn signals. I have a set of earlier turn signals and fitted them but I put the originals back on. If we all liked the same thing it would be boring. I enjoy making mine, mine. Almost finished can't wait to drive it again after all no mater what year model you have and in what condition, driving any of them will make you smile.
Enjoy the ride

I have two 1970's. And a 69. I like the light arrangement on the 69 better (best of all years) but I also strive to keep the cars stock. As Keith said, make mine, mine. I like mine the way the factory (and USDOT) made them.

And, the 70 being the last of the bloodline is a good conversation starter. Note that the Z and 510 were treated to the 70 roadster side markers...so they have that going for them :)

i bought the car on somewhat of a whim, i have always liked the way these looked but to be perfectly frank was not nearly educated on these to know if it was a good buy or not. was looking for a drain plug size since mine is leaking, and ended up seeing this here. the car runs very well and is not something that is so nice that i would consider not driving. just by chance i ended up seeing it here, seems like a small community

cheers
