New member, starting the wrong way!

Post by 2mAn »

Hey everyone. Names Simon Tuman (hence 2mAn). I am an avid German car fan, but more of a general car fan. I love cars and racing. Ive owned around 20 cars and Im 35. I currently (only) have 2 cars. I daily drive a '08 C350 Benz, its not bad. Pretty much stock, just a few cosmetic changes for now. Its going to get H&R springs & C63 struts and shocks soon to get some more low and AMG handling. A few more minor things too, but nothing crazy.

Image

The other car was my daily driver until last year. Highly modified '84 BMW 318 that is currently getting corner balanced since I just installed coilovers. It will get terrorizing much more expensive cars at Willow Springs next weekend. Its basically a track car now.

so why am I here?

I eventually want to get into Vintage racing and though Im currently doing my HPDEs with the Alfa club of SoCal, I plan to get a Roadster to eventually have as the Vintage racer. I wanted an Alfa, but after long talks with Will (SLOroadster here) I have fallen for the roadster. The plan is to get one that I can drive with my wife for a few years and slowly make upgrades and then eventually it will become a full bore racer.

I actually just bought some roadster parts today, and will probably slowly start collecting stuff while I plot my plan on how to have a roadster "drop in my lap" so my wife doesnt start questioning why I have 3 cars

Thanks for having me :smt006

Welcome, you got a good start on the obsession with Will, and this forum.
I am on my Second Benz, recently got '17 C43 AMG - much love as my daily driver. Of course my true car love is the Roadster!

C43? I didnt know they made those new, I remember those W202 chassis with V8s in them. Im guessing yous is a turbo v6 or something?

ps, picked up a few LSDs, rear ends and some LSD tools this past weekend. Meeting up with another roadster owner, Harlan on Friday to have an experienced eye take a closer look at them. I will be selling one of them as theres no reason to keep 3 of them. Stay tuned as I will get a better idea of what it is before I try to sell it.

C43 AMG is the 2017 version of the 2016 C450 AMG. It is a bi-turbo V6, 362HP, 369 lb/ft, all wheel drive, 9 speed transmission, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds. She's sick fast for stock and a blast to drive. It makes me grin from ear to ear, just like the Roadster, only different!

You can often find roadster race "packages" being sold complete by oldsters who are retiring. They make their way onto Bringatrailer but it's better to find them here first. You can get a VERY competitive track car for much less than $10,000

So here I am a few months later, a little more active because things are starting to happen. Just spent about $600 on Roadster parts, even though I have yet to actually own one.... but we will see what happens in the near future... :)

Yikes

They certainly are nice cars, not cheap though! Im learning from my mistake from when I built my E30 that I need to look closely at the rules before buying and building a car, and the Alfas I like would be limited to 1600cc MAX and I would rather have my money go much further, and it does that with a Roadster, especially if I get a 2000 with Solex carbs.

Stay tuned

Well, time to update my signature but I'm in the Oakland Airport flying back to LA. Been in Napa for the last 36 hours working on the roadster I just purchased. I have plenty of pics and will start the build thread later tonight when I'm home. You'll be seeing a lot more of me here now. Time to sell the E30...

Excited to see what you got and I'm assuming it's prepped well like Monty's! Looks like you are in good hands with Will too he will get those brakes sorted for you.

Not quite as good as Spike yet but it's something I get to make mine rather than it being "Garm's old car" though missing out on his really kicked my ass into high gear.

Took too long to get home tonight so the thread will get started tomorrow
