I just looked at an original radiator in the garage. You can tell the sticker has never been removed. It is oriented as if you're reading it while standing in front of the car (with no hood in the way of course)

Guess I won't have to buy another sticker after all!
datsun1500, that is what I was thinking on the orientation. based of the 1600 picture in an add and the blury image of that sticker and looking at my repro sticker marking it looks like it needs to be orientated to be readable when standing in front of the car if the hood was off.
It's just a battery topper. I stole the idea from Andrew W., who has one on his beautiful '69 - some may remember his car won BOS at Solvang in '13.
It won't work with a standard (correct) 24F sized battery, however, since the topper makes it too tall for the standard mounting setup. I bought a shorter battery to make it work, along with terminal extenders so it all looks "real."
It does also require that one remove (saw off) the plastic handles that are part of the new battery. I used black vinyl wrap around the battery to hide the evidence of that. There are also a couple of other minor engineering things you need to do so it all sits flat and looks good....
BTW, you can buy an Autolite reproduction battery for $300+, but I thinks that's nuts.
You can buy the topper and terminal extenders off of EBay, but be aware there are cheap knockoffs for sale that don't look as good. I purchased mine through an established Mustang restoration store that points out the differences.
If anyone is interested in pursuing this, feel free to PM for other smaller details.
J. Baker , that is lookin' very nice!
I see you upgraded to Solex carbs.
by the way, what did you do to cleanup the valve cover?
your "old" one looked chromed?
is the latest version just a walnut shell sand blast or did you powder coat it or something else?
I see that you moved to the Cupertino area. I use to work for HP in Cupertino on Wolf which is now the Apple spaceship ring thing. I was retired when it was sold.
maybe I will see you on a local run with Alvin sometime, I live in the Santa Cruz mountain area.
Yep, just moved up to the Bay Area a couple of weeks ago - still settling in, but enjoying things too.
I had a polished valve cover when I ran the SU's, but when I switched over to the Solexs I wanted a more "stock" look so I found out where the concours Corvette guys get there's done. I found "the guy" who puts them in a special media tumbler for a weekend to get the right finish. I can't remember the shop's name off the top of my head, but his restoration shop is across the street from Chip Foose's shop in Orange County (Huntington Beach). He only charged me $40 to do it, and the media he uses seals the pores which makes it easy to keep clean without screwing up the finish.
It would be great to meet up with you up here for a drive with Alvin - he's been very gracious and promised to take me out and about for such a drive weather permitting.

Picture is of the 1500 engine bay. Datsun liked to reuse pictures.
What I would like is a readable picture of the 66-67 washer tank sticker(s) since there seems to be more than one.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.
