Window Crank question

Post by jsshapmd »

My drivers side window crank fell off and does not want to go back on.

The retention spring is in place but I can't seem to get it to catch on the post.

Any tricks or advice?

Thank you,

Jeff

May sound obvious, but is the retainer clip in the way?
Or is that what you are referring to as the retention spring. If so, you may need to bend the clip so it becomes narrower. Install the crank on the post without it, push in as far as you can and then hold it in place as you slide the clip in.

The spring needs to be inserted into the slot on the handle such that its legs just protrude into the splined area.
Check that you have the spring like that and not 180deg out.
If it is 180deg out it may allow the spring legs to enter the splined area too far thus blocking the door shaft from entering the handle.
You may also need help to push the door card flat whilst you engage the handle.
Nissanman, just trying to help.

Your retaining spring may have lost its temper and is just too soft and not springy enough to lock onto the regulator post. You can get a new one at any autoparts store for cheap.

Perhaps the splines on the regulator may be worn on the inner side where the spring would catch...maybe sharpen that edge with a file?

What is OSH? Where can I buy the spring located in the window regulator? Took my regulator out and it was missing the spring?
