I installed Autometer gauges in my 67 roadster and both the water temp and oil pressure gauges seem to be not working correctly. The water temp guage bounces all over the place while the oil pressure gauge instantly gets pegged to the hilt at 100 psi.
Do I have to use the senders that came with the new gauges or should the stock ones work just fine? If I do use the new water temp sender, it seems to be a little short and not the same length as the oem one currently installed. Will this be a problem? Is there anything else I need to be aware of?
installed after market gauges

RE:Autometer Gauges
Are they mechanical or electrical? I prefer the mechanical for both oil and water over the electrical. You should use the sending units for the Autometer gauges. If your temp guage is bouncing around it sounds like a loose connection. I would say there is a malfunction between the sending unit and your oil pressure gauge. If you are runnning 100 PSI oil pressure you have a blockage some where. I doubt that is a true reading though. Anyone else?

I agree wiht Steve. Check that all connections are tight and that you have a good ground. Also.......I'm not sure ......but for the autometer gauges, you need to use a 12 volt lead. If you use your old wiring (i.e. 66 Roadster) I was once told that that line is regulated to 3 volts. Not sure if that's true, but I used all new wiring for all gauges except the fuel line. Hopefully, this fall I will get to complete a writeup for the site.

naw, you know how it goes...
the holes for the clock, tach and speedo were to small. Since I had the dash off it was a lot easier to cut the holes bigger. You can do a variety of things to make the holes bigger just be careful not to make them too big!!
I got the meters from Jegs actually, from what I saw they had the best prices on the web next to e-gauges.com
How are the prices at summit.

The prices are good but they don't offer the Phantom gauge kit. The kit I was looking at had everything but the tach on clock and was going for $222 so after buying the tach it would have been over three hundred (but size was too small). I guess since I'm pulling the dash it would be just as easy as well. Thanks for the low down.
