Tried to make a cheap version of the front cross brace that Lou Mondello has on Victor's roadster.
http://www.311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... 45#p160209
His is much nicer, but I'm in for about $10 and a few hours time on the drill press and the hydraulic press, w/some modest Tig time.

After years of using the roadster to pile cardboard and other assorted crap onto, starting last weekend:
- Uncovered project. Large cardboard run to recycle.
- Bagged, tagged & stowed all previously removed items. So -THAT'S- where those cam timing gear bolts were!
- Discovered workbench again.
Removed:
- seat belts
- seats
- brake lines & splitter
- hood latch & cable
- steering shaft & column
- parking brake linkage
- carpeting (found 18 cents!)
- fuel tank, line, vent bracket.....crap....trunk floor cracked.
Wish I had jujuman's garage...sigh.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Had a bouncing tach yesterday morning, a bit chilly, so today I was advised to use lithium grease on the inner cable- pulling it out to grease at the distributor, then threading it back in. Very easy job with good results.

Cut the retainers and pulled the rollers off of the diff carrier bearings to find spalling. Glad that I decided to rebuild the entire axle and not just the shafts.

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I can report that there are indeed fiddley little bits that jump out when you take a turn signal apart, I recommended doing so only on a surface where you couldn't loose a grain of rice.
I just cleaned it a bit, the contacts were rather grubby. You have to take the little plate off the base of the turn stalk (2 tiny screws) and remove the two equally small screws that hold the block with the hi beam switch tab, before turning the thing over and removing the 2" or so circlip that holds it together. When you pull it apart, the small rectangular contact and the small spring under it, and a larger spring will pop out. I put a little anti-seize on the bearing spots and put it back together before I lost or forgot anything (: I stripped the old hard plastic off the wires, will replace with techflex.

I started unload the storage shed into the garage, found a set of 2l carbs and switched out the broken overflow tubes on my 1600 and continued my daily "Me Time in the Man Cave." very therapeutic.
I look forward to stripping down the rust bucket and rebuilding the 2L. With tons of great ideas from here I will have projects for many of nights!

Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Pretty good. Lots of yardwork and stuff. Finally have a place to work on the car, so winter projects have begun. The shop isn't heated. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that yet, since my wood shop is upstairs, and it will be awful cold trying to work on stuff.C.Costine wrote:Jordan, how are the new digs working out? Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
I put a wall mount catalytic propane unit in my shop ten years ago and I have been super happy with it. I keep it at 50 degrees, then boost it up to about sixty when I go in unless I am working on something that needs warmer like paint or body filler.Mainer311 wrote:Pretty good. Re: What did you do TO or FOR your Datsun today?(Roadsters only)
Over at Kevin's today.. Assembled the heater while Kevin was making sense of a '69 harness..

A car arrived for some little cleanups and fixes..
Moved Kevin's car out back so the new arrival can sit indoors..

Got the heater box installed.. Now to get the heater hoses hooked to the SR, and finish the under dash wiring..

This car is getting close!!

Finished the diff and reinstalled into the housing. Installed inner axle seals. Rebuilt the torque rod with modified GM LCA bushings.
