I called them both and they said that they don't make such a part??? How does anybody in the USA or CANADA not make a 3/8"-24 male/female brake line coupling is beyond me. Did anybody ever try to do what I am doing? If so, how did you do it? Otherwise I would not buy a Willwood master cylinder.Curtis wrote:There are two places I would try here in the Seattle area.

You only need the bottom fitting!!
The thread in the master cylinder 1/8" NPT
I know its bigger than 1/8"......1/8" is the inside of the pipe.

That's what I have been saying all along. So the outside of the male fitting is 3/8"-24 and the inside of the female fitting will fit a 3/8"-24 (3/16" brake line)?fj20spl311 wrote:You only need the bottom fitting!!

The outside of the male fitting is 1/8" NPT......about 3/8" I don't know the TPI, but the thread is a special taper to seal.
Be careful when tightening as you can crack the Master Cylinder if you tighten it too tight, I use thread sealer or tape sparingly.

I finally got somebody to make it work. Have a look. The thread that I thought was a 24 count, was actually a 27 count. That is why I had such a hard time finding the part. Don't think I could have simply bent my brake line around, as it would not fit. Anyhow, Wilwood is a good master I have been hearing from friends.

Suggest you make a metal line that directly fits the master (maybe with a single adapter) You have like 5 joints there...sorry two thumbs down. j

Ya but the master does not have a flared end, thus impossible to avoid having multiple adapters. If you try screwing in a 90 degree fitting it could end up pointing anywhere and not necessarily to the right. Trust me I went everywhere and this is the only way a racing shop could set it up for me.

The thread into the brake master cylinder is TAPERED.....
That means it does not bottom out and have only one orientation. You do have to be careful when tightening, but it should have about 180° range where its tight.

Slightly off topic but does anyone have a source for a 1970 240z 7/8" master cylinder for a big brake conversion?

Re: Is there an alternative Master Cylinder for a 67 1600?
An update on the Wilwood Master. You have to add a few shims in order for the cap to fit. The other alternative is to get a shorter bolt but if they are positioned firmly in place that is not an option. Also, you have to make sure the push rod is not to long or too short. I used an adjustable one that screws on which made it easy to attach the rubber cap, rather than trying to get it over the bolt (the hole is too small). Also, easy to remove the Master completely, because all you do is remove the end of the shaft by unscrewing it and then removing the rubber and sliding out the master. Sometimes you can't get the master out because the rubber gets caught on the hole where the master slides into the firewall.
