First Cut & Buff since paint job
Howdy gang.
Here's a couple of pics of her paint. This is the first pass with compound + polish + wax since she was painted in 2013. Black is tough but I'm kinda proud of the results. I used 3M's stage 1 and 2 with just an orbital polisher.
Ugh, I went around the car like 10 times. Wash then clay bar, then wash, then stage 1 application, then stage 1 removal, then wash, then stage 2 application, then stage 2 removal, then wash, then plain old Turtle Wax paste application, then removal, then wash.
My arms are going to fall off. Did I mention that I either removed some of the bright work or taped it off before the whole process?
Take a look. She's ready to dance,
Kendall

Is that a random orbital polisher you used? Slow speed? Car looks good-

Black is such a PITA but when it's right and cared for properly it's beautiful.
Congratulations, you have good cause to be "kinda proud".

Re: First Cut & Buff since paint job
Very nice, and a very rewarding job that is worth the hard work. The real tell tail will be how it looks in the sun, and if you find a lot of swirl, I suggest you try swirl remover or better yet, Eagle One Nanowax (specifically). After cutting and buffing my car post paint, I was struggling to get rid of the swirl. I had cut and buffed my car before with different paint and was very familiar with the process, but this paint was super hard and I had been given incorrect info on when to do the cut (should have been done in the first couple days, not the 2 weeks I was told, as the paint product had changed and now it was extremely hard). The swirls were killing me! I tried EVERYTHING, and out of desperation I tried this because, per the box, the "nano particles" fill in the swirls and make them disappear... "bullshit" I'm thinkin, but nope, it worked GREAT! I used it on Damn it Bills black '70 which I had done as well and it worked on his too.
Looking awesome Kendal, congrats!

Re: First Cut & Buff since paint job
What?? My washer and dryer isn't a good enough landmark??? LOL!!! They came with the house. They work as if they are as old as the car.
Yeah Greg, you're right. The sun will be the tell all. My clear coat is a little "ghosty" on the passenger side. She's full of swirls. A wet sand would help but, well... that's just too dangerous to do on my own.
Linda, the orbital is a Performance Tool 6" Car Polisher. I like using the terry cloth bonnets. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... p?pt=N0684
I'm a little hesitant about using the real deal but I would love to learn. Maybe I'll paint the lawn mower and experiment with it.
Glad you like it folks. Our cars are just so cool. I can't take her anywhere without drawing a crowd.

Makes me rethink painting mine black again. Well done!
And I'm kinda wanting one of those fancy pants automated car polisher doo-hickeys now.
