Rx-7 rearend potential?

Post by silvertiger »

Just pull my Rx-7 rearend LSD apart last week to prep for narrowing.

As I did started to wonder how much power can the rearend handle? The power goal I have is north of 240hp at the wheels. Could someone chime in.

Figure Spriso/Michael might know the answer off the top.

Thanks

I watched one hold 350hp pretty easily. So at your power goals, no problems whatsoever.

I would recommend against trying to drive through wheel hop or other massive shock load traction events. Full throttle tires in grip acceleration, not a problem. Axle bouncing and tires trying to grab, release and spin up to speed, then grab again, that would be bad.. But you will probably blow out the driveshaft before you hurt the rear end..

That is a weight off my mind.....

Wheel hop I is corrected a lot by moving to a 4 link

Will post pic and progress on having a rolling chassis by summers end. Right now the frame is floating.

Thanks

Just curious if you're doing the narrowing yourself or having someone do it for you?

Thanks

We have not broken any yet, but we are not doing any hard abuse with any of ours yet either. They are an exceptional upgrade to the roadster!

Going to run Turbo. I have a Sr20 S14 NA right now but going to sell it. Going to install a Sr20 S14Det

I have never beat on my cars. Will push them to a very high limit but No thrashing.

I going to have a shop narrow the rearend.

Moser axles Hmmm had not thought about them.

Well, I did 8k clutch drops at 200hp/155tq on the skidpad at Willow Springs.. It took it without a question.. So I would not be even a little worried..

Smart man! You will love the turbo. The Moser suggestion is overkill but I'm with other RX-7 rear end owners...you'll be fine.
