I have a new set of Panasports and I am having an issue with them fitting over the front hubs. It seems the last 1/8 in or so won't fit over the lip of the hub (inner). Is there a spacer required? Would it be easier to remove material from the hub or the wheel? I have had the hubs powdercoated, could that be enough to make them not fit? Thanks in advance for your advice.
The powder could be just thick enough to make it difficult to fit them on there. I know I had some trouble getting the caliper adapter plate over the spindle and it was due to it being a very tight fit prior to the powdercoating and the coating itself making them just not fit together. You should be able to force the pieces together, which may scrape off some of the powdercoating. Or you could remove the coating from the edges of the hub yourself.
I had the same problem. In my case the dust cap over the spindle nut was hitting the wheel. I flattened the dust cap about a 1/4" and the wheels went on.
Alvin, they are the FS-14 wheels with the correct bolt pattern. I am assuming that these are the correct wheels for the roadster. I will file off some of the powdercoating this evening to see if that is the problem.
It doesn't look like a high tech part and they can be made easily on a lathe with some aluminum bar stock. I have had the same discussion just last week with a couple of other roadster owners that have this same problem. I have the same problem as well and had a spacer behind the wheel, I am looking to change the spacer from behind the wheel to the front and think that an adapter can be machined that will fit the powdercoated or aluminum wheels easily. It would be interesting to know what your results are in filing off the powdercoating (OUCH!!), sure hope you dont damage your wheels, that would really be a downer!!
