Tach cable is broken and I'm wondering what the difference is between the "old style" one on Dean's site vs. the Nissan part# B5055-A3302 version. The price difference is pretty substantial.

Hmmm, I think I got the old style but I had trouble trying to get that cable in there!
it was a real pain standing on you head with your back on the seat bottom and foot panel trying to get the cable to bend in what seemed like an S turn to get to the tach. it is real tight in there.

my new one also seems to weep a very tiny bit at the other end where the metal crimps the plastic covering of the cable.

plus it has an extra weather boot/firewall gromet for going through the firewall. I only needed one so the second is just free floating on the cable under the dash.

The more recently manufactured cables have a much more stiff outer sheath, regardless of the design.

Apparently my wife thinks I need these...what size go on '68?

I pulled my console for some extra room while working under the dash. When I reinstalled everything my choke cable no longer holds its position.
I have looked at the mechanism but cannot see anything that looks wrong and or different but it definitely is not functioning like it was...
I have a small wire spring at the handle end but there does not appear to be enough friction to hold.
On the chance orientation matters I have rotated the mechanism as well. Is there a diagram of the mechanism? perhaps a part fell out.

Ah. Interesting, I just took mine out to relocate them. I think mine were 3/8-24 in my 68.

I have seen pictures and threads about replacing choke cables here.
Havnt run across a diagram.
After you pull the choke knob, turn it clockwise, that will lock the cable in the chosen position.
There should be a tab on the cable mech and a slot in the console, behind the radio faceplate that mate.

When you remove the drain and fill plugs in the differential and the transmission do you put any sealant on them on reinstall or is a dry fit the proper way to go?

I am wondering if they are all tapered and you nust go up tight?

are there any proper torque numbers for them?

Dry for the most part. Remove any dirt if you can, dont want it to sound crunchy going back in.
Im not sure if the case is tapered or the drain plugs are. But it is an interference fit.

I always advise using a good quality thread sealant.
That way you don't need to tighten them to within a bees dick of their life to make them oil tight.
Hate it when they are done up really tight by the previous "mechanic"
