67 SPL on BaT - opinions?

I see a nice looking 1600 on BaT. I did notice the paint job seems to have gone over hinges and hood prop rod and stuff. But otherwise appears to be a nice car.

I'm curious what people who know about values for these cars think about how much the numbers matching engine adds value, or conversely, if this same car had a U20 transplant - was 'cloned' to be like a 67 SRL, what would be the affect on price for similar condition?

My motivation for asking is to learn about the cars and the value. I am really liking these cars more and more, but will not be bidding. Too soon for me until I sell my house.

Unless I am mistaken, the hinges and prop rod should be painted

Oh that could be, I wouldn't know. With so many good pictures I can't say I've noticed this before on other cars, just kinda looked like they painted almost everything.

Certainly not something that would stop me if I was ready to buy.

That is a very nice looking car.
IMHO, it's condition, condition, condition!!!

That looks to be a very clean, restored engine......far more valuable than a old U-20.

I am not a huge fan of 67.5 2000s as the value makes them not get driven.

A diesel 5 speed would make a nice addition.

Yes, I see your point about condition and value, and is why I asked about a non-number matching, engine swap type of car value by comparison.

I know it will probably be beyond my budget, and have the same opinion about the 67.5 SRL. I wouldn't want to be afraid to drive it for fear of devaluing it. I want a car I can drive and enjoy as well as keep it as close to stock as possible.

So to Sid, thanks for being patient with the newbie.

Search the forum for +diesel +5 +speed.
You use either the whole S22 diesel 5 speed or just the bell housing with L-Series 5 speed.
You can get a few different gear ratios depending on your use......A higher overdrive for less RPM on the freeway.

If you want to keep your car as "Stock" as possible, most likely the best resale value, A 1600 is a good car.
I Don't believe the original engine add much. You have to remember there is no way to check for sure as reproduction plates are available and the engine number is not normally part of the title.

So it really comes down to condition, condition, condition......This is my opinion only.....Also I own two cars with motor swaps and I have more in them than they will ever be able to recover when my relatives sell.....LOL

What I think is more important is how you fit. If you are over 6', I would HIGHLY suggest you drive a low windshield car before you invest in one. I enjoy my 67.5, but its a PITA to drive in town as the windshield rim is a just the right height the I can not see most stoplights. I need to either lean in to the wheel or fine one at the side of the road.

I also needed to remove the sun visors as they are in the way. I changes the location of the rear view mirror to the strut rod so I can adjust the height. I am 6'2", 250.

The dash on the 67 cars is something I just love, and since I'm 5'-10 there's hope. You guys probably know about the guy that went 37,000 miles trip in his 1600. He put in a 5 spd transmission for better highway cruising.

Thought it sounded like a good idea.

Looks like a good car. Very nice driver. New owner with a fresh perspective could clean it up good.
The driver side rear quarter was repaired at some point, extra seam,,overlap, etc.

The driver fender does fit correctly at the bottom also.
You need to compare how straight it fits were the two bolts hold the fender.
At least it has bolts and not welded.
IMHO, it still looks like a good car.....

PS: Our standard advice is buy the best roadster you can afford. In the past, that was always cheaper.

I have a 67.5 2000 and drive the shit out of her! Maybe that's cause it was modified long before I got her 30 yrs ago and without a different body n stuff she never will be "correct", and I'm glad cause I love to improve things and make her mine... The only "value" to me is the smile on my face at warp 9! Enjoy the car!!!

The more I look at it the more I like it. Hope someone here gets it. I am encouraged that there were over 10,000 '67 1600's made. I might stand a chance of finding one in good condition - recommendation taken :) when I'm ready to pull the trigger.

I saw one post on BaT that read: "...the 67.5 are the last of the low windshield flat dash cars. There were numerous minor changes over the 67s due to federal regulations. The most obvious is that the chrome disappeared inside. I don’t see any real significance to the 67.5 1600s, but in 67.5, the 2000 was introduced ..."

So this comment has me wondering what exactly ARE the differences between a 67 1600 and a 67.5 1600?
