try a pinto motor

Post by flynch42 »

i've put in a 2300 pinto motor and so far it has needed very little modification ..(i havent done a frame-off or anything) i just slipped it in....the cam shaft pully is close to the frames crossmember but it doesn't touch and the hole for the stick shift nedded about two inches cut away,..oh and some modifiying was required for the pinto's mechanical clutch to be converted to hydralic...but thats about it....i'm not done yet....i still need to connect the electris and the cooling system but i'll try to keep everyone informed off my progress20

I'm afraid I have some bad news. You have mistakenly installed the engine upside down.

:P

I ran the Pinto 2.3L motor for about 8 years before I upgraded to the turbo motor. The Pinto motor was carbureted, I like the EFI system much better. But at the end of the day, they both work fine... so long as you intall them right side up. (Valve cover close to hood, oil pan to the ground ;-) )
BTW, the flywheel should be near the firewall.... LOL
J/K, just have to give you a hard time!

Since this pic I have relocated the turbo to the stock location, low and to the rear. I will have to post some new pics.
SVO's have a much larger engine bay, BTW... LOL

Please do... Is that the stock turbo manifold upside down? why did you move it back and down?

I like that the turbo side is away from the steering :D

Yes, the stock manifold was turned upside down... which put the hot turbine housing up against the hood and burned the paint off!
Now you know why I restored it to the stock position.
Here is a link to some pics of the manifold and turbine housing coated with an aerospace spec ceramic to keep the heat inside.
