Finally... 1969 SRL311 MO via TX

Post by justinmc89 »

After several years of lusting after and "almost" buying several roadsters in various conditions I have picked up a 1969 SRL311. Well in process of picking up. Car has been paid for and is being held at a friends shop for transport to bring it to me from TX.

Me: Long time Nissan and Datsun enthusiast. I have written and photographed for Sport Z and Nissan Sport back in the day (when they used to exist!) and have spent time at various Nissan gatherings throughout the years on and off for 20 or so years. I also own a 1989 240sx coupe with a LSx swap and a 1986.5 Datsun hardbody pickup truck I use for hauling things about, etc.

The car... 1969 SRL311 procured via a facebook post that a friend (a Z enthusiast) bird dogged for me. I will have to wait for delivery before I give it the big once over but I had two friends give it a once over who are both Nissan/Datsun and overall car enthusiasts and it gets the thumbs up especially at the price point. So far as I can tell the car is not in the registry (will be doing that soon) and has been off the streets for at least 10 years; probably longer. Car is pretty straight, mechanically all there but needs some love an attention to make it run after sitting so long. The body is solid other than surface rust here and there as is the chassis from what we can tell so far.

At some point in the next couple of years it will go full frame off for paint and repairs but right now I want to get it running/driving and roadworthy so I can enjoy it. I'll do some preservation work to keep the body from getting worse and figure out the quirks and areas that need attention before I dive too deep in and just start ripping things apart just for the sake of doing it.

Yellow paint (appears original)
2000 motor (needs some love to make right)
Stock wheels/hub caps

That's about all I can tell so far. It does not have a top or top frame. So I'll have to source one of those at some point in the near future.

Should be to me in a couple of weeks!

Welcome, post your location in your profile. Looking forward to seeing your progress. You have the right idea, get it running and bond with it before you even consider a tear down/restoration!

Best of luck on your journey! I see those rare '70-'71 240Z hubcaps currently on the car - they'll help you put a little money in the resto-kitty!

Good spot! I didn't even catch that at first. There is another set in the trunk as well. Can't wait to have it in the garage so I can really go through it.
