Random SR20DE(T) conversion questions
As I am researching this swap, I learn things, and the more you know, the more you realize you dont know.
Im keeping an eye on the wiki for the step by step swap, but do understand that all swaps and swap plans are different.
I would appreciate anyone's help with what might be simple questions, but are unknown to me. Michael and Kevin have been particularly helpful and generous with their time and info.
I would like to know some more about crank pulleys that are used.
Is the stock pulley usually used? I know power steering and A/C arent, so I didnt know if an alternative crank pulley was used.
Can the stock pulley be powder coated? Or does that affect its balance with the crank?
Has anyone ever used a lightweight/underdriven pulley, or are those shied away from?

Re: Random SR20DE(T) conversion questions
Quick answer to your crank pulley question:
1. We use the stock crank pulley.
2. We will occasionally cut the front pulley off in the lathe and then rebalance the pulley.
3. You can't powder coat the pulley as it is infused with rubber-- paint it is!
4. There are aftermarket crank pulleys available, but our research shows limited benefits-- they were popular about 10 years ago, but I don't see many people still using them...
My . 02 Yen-- spend at will.

Thanks Michael!
Do you cut the front pulley off for aesthetics or for fit? I was asking more for color options, and if it needed to be replaced.

You don't have to cut the AC portion off, we just do it to make things look a little cleaner.

On my stock SR, I used a stock pulley, painted.. It looked good, and was OEM good..
On my VE motor, when we sent the whole rotating assembly in for balance, I had them cut off the front 2 pulleys off and balance it.

Thanks. To be clear, you cut the front off, and then run two belts, one to the alt. and one to the water pump?spriso wrote:Quick answer to your crank pulley question:

Re: Random SR20DE(T) conversion questions
just curious, is it possible for the roadster engine bay to accommodate AC components with the SR20DET swap?

Re: Random SR20DE(T) conversion questions
Yes, it can be done. Shannon has AC on his S14 SR20DE swap. Alvin will post some pics I'm sure.
It gets more complicated on the turbo swaps as the intercooler sits where you would normally put an ac condenser but with some careful packaging....
