I'm finishing a SR20DET swap and agree with some of the comments so far. Flatten the flange where the firewall meets the transmission tunnel. I had issues there. Also don't forget the notch in the ledge under the clutch master cylinder. I got that recommendation from Michael at Spriso and would be having some clearance issues without it. I ran into lots of issues with the back axle being able to handle the engine torque. I tried to use one torque rod to control the spin of the RX7 back axle and that was a huge no go. I had a second torque rod added and that still did not work well. Only after the torque rods were replaced with adjustable struts did we get it right. I'm running a more powerful engine with lots of performance mods ( my fabrication mechanic estimates 250 hp and another who has Nissan racing experience with SR20DET engines thinks it may be 300 hp ) so you won't have as much torque but you should at least add a second torque rod. Upgrading the front brakes is a must. I used the Girling Volvo brakes which work well. Don't use the ATE brakes. They go in without modification but the pads are much smaller. Don't forget to upgrade the brake master cylinder. I am sorting through the gauge set up now. I'm using the mechanical speedometer setup as detailed by Michael. The speedometer registers high. I reduce the readings by about 20% and that seems to work. I'm using the stock fuel gauge sending unit with the original gauge and that works well. I removed the stock temp sending nipple from the original block and screwed it into the hole where the SR sending unit was. Worked well. I'm still sorting the other gauges. While you have easy access to the steering box it should be rebuilt by replacing the seals and bearing. The Pitman arm can be removed. I put some info about that someplace on the site, I think in tech wiki. Also think about rebuilding the idler box, too. I didn't and had to go back and do that too. If you have original parts in the front suspension they should be critically inspected and replaced if not very tight. That can cost a bundle. It will be worth it. Get the upper ball joints from rareparts.com. Much cheaper. Inspect your oil pan. Replace if dented. Dents can limit the oil intake. Replace the oil pump while you have the engine out of the car. I did not and it may have contributed to my main bearing going bad, ruining the crank, and requiring an engine rebuild. I have made every mistake and had every problem so learn from my experiences. I'm driving it several times a week now. Turning over the key and listening to that 3 inch exhaust sound is intoxicating. Just about every time I go out I'm approached by people who want to talk about my car. Last week I was stopped in traffic and a young man ran through the cars so he could take a photo of my roadster. He ignored a Masarati stopped nearby. Your decision to use a DE rather than a DET engine will greatly reduce the issues you will have. I've got more power than I will ever need but would probably do it again.
