SEMA 2015

Post by RCMike »

So Jon Frampton's SPL was invited to show at SEMA in the Turbos by Garrett booth, and Kevin Desirello was invited to participate in the 'Battle of the Builders.'

The car was freshened up by Jon, and brought out Sunday night. Monday morning, the car was loaded into the convention center..

Still a ton of work to do in the hall, so we took off and enjoyed to city for a few..

Tuesday morning, the show opened, and wow, what a difference.

Kevin was talking things over with the people from Garrett.

Alvin, Rob, and the rest of our friends at Z Car Garage were showing the OS Giken TC24-B1Z in a 240z..

Car was starting to get attention. In a show of over 2000 cars, not always an easy task..
Image

Motor looking good, Garrett made a new cap for the waste gate with a Garrett logo..

Models love the roadster..

Kevin's entry on the Battle of the Builders board..

At 2:30, first results were released..

Turns out, Kevin has made the top 21.. Anyone in the Las Vegas area, Friday will be the SEMA ignited show, open to the public, and the cars involved will be in a parade.

It was great seeing the guys from Sin City Datsuns, and talking to the many people who were wondering what exactly that little car is..

More soon..

Wow! I heard Frampton's car was going to SEMA but I did not know to the extent of it's participation or the team that was going with it. Nice work guys!

I think my roadster value just increased (not that I am selling it. No way!)

I was there yesterday and saw Jon's car. Truly outstanding and getting a lot of attention. As far as I know it is the first Datsun roadster ever at SEMA. There are more Datsun cars at the show this year than all of the years I have gone put together. If Brian from Sin City Datsuns had not broken his foot there would have been two roadsters. We'll shoot for next year.

To see the progress that's been achieved by Kevin, Michael, Jon and others in bringing our cars to such a high level is truly heart warming.
Congrats to Jon!

Agreed, nice coverage. So is the ZCars head based off the original 432 JDM version or is it a completely custom design and make? Really great power for a NA engine, well over what used to be the magical 100hp per liter. I couldn't make out the dyno sheet, so it is hard to know if it's really peeky or if it would be decent for "daily" driving. How fun and exciting to be part of such an effort.

Greg, the cylinder head is from OS Giken, no relation to the S20 as it is designed to bolt on to the SOHC L-series block. The first version was made in the 70s. Brought back recently with new tooling, materials and better performance. Even with the 50's it is absolutely a daily driver. I'll start a thread with video tonight.
