Converting to moden seat belts...

Yep, again with the questions...

My DPO did away with the stock seat belts so I cannot use the clip in three point setup.

Where do folks mount the upper, rear pivot for the three point.

I know where to put the retractor and the receiver, that's pretty obvious.

What have others done if you please...

My retractors bolt to the wheel wells. No issues.

Uh, thank you Garth, but I know the retractors need to go down low. My question is: Where did you mount the pivot point?

What pivot points? Don't use them. I was going to mount them on the rollbar but decided not to install the rollbar, hence no pivots. Does not cause any problems as the shoulder strap fits perfectly over the seat back and my shoulder. Note though, I do have Miata seats installed.

Are you looking for the stock shoulder mount bolt-in location? If so this is located on the side of the rear wheelwells. I can post a pic later

They are a low mount break your collarbone setup from the factory, no upper pivot Non retracting belt to rear fender well, over the seatback/shoulder and shared buckle.

I connected my retractor to the floor, similar to the above picture, with a small piece of angle. the vertical piece connected to the retractor and the lower piece connected to the two threaded inserts that were there for the original stock roll bar. I connected the upper point to a point above the shoulder, to the roll bar (non stock roll bar that had non stock attachment points), again similar to the above photo. I can send you pictures if this if this what you are interested in.

If you want to experiment with it, I have a roll bar in the garage in Hector that was made as a belt bar, doesn't come up to normal height. Might be helpful for a mockup. That one you can have if you want, or I have an Autopower you can borrow. Carl had been known to make one if he gets bored.

I'm not going to do a roll bar however, at least not yet.

I DID manage to find the wheel well mounting point though, covered by carpeting, all exposed now.

I've attached a photo of the before connection to the floor for the retractor on my passenger side. It came with the gold angle which I needed to drill out a hole in the base center as shown with a black circle. I had to clean out the threads (took a bit of work) for the hole closest to the center of the car. The holes (with threads) were originally used for the factory roll bar.
I had to first bolt the base of the angle to the threaded insert and then when tight, I bent the angle to that it was vertical (since the base is on an incline). I read in the instructions that this part needs to be vertical for the retractor to work correctly.


The next two photos show the completed attachments for the drivers side - on the floor, on the outside wall and on the roll bar. Hope this helps.

I know the OP has a 69 which has the mounting for the shoulder belt on the back wheel well, but cars earlier than 67.5 don't have that. They only used a lap belt.
Personally I like the rollbar mounting with a modern retractable system.

Excuse the dusty deck. Retractor mounted on the wheel well, (currently under the boot).



Approximate position of shoulder strap, might ride a little higher on me as I'm 6'5". If I was doing a new set of custom seats I'd incorporate a velcro loop on the seat back to fix strap position for easier buckling.



Buckle position at seat and tunnel.
