Cleaning out gas tank

Hello 311s families,
Has anyone try cleaning out the gas tank? I pour 3 gallons of white vinegar and put a chain in there and keep push it around turn it upside down every directions. Good amount of crap came out. Now do I wash it out with water and sealed with gas tank sealer?

I bought a kit from KBS coatings after confirming I had intermittent blockage of fuel line. If I recall correct, it had 3 components. Metal clean (mild acid)', rinse (acid stabilizer)' seal(epoxy). I put a 4 ft truckers chain in it at each stage and flipped the tank around the yard for a few hours.... Going on 5 years now without a problem.

I used the large motorcycle kit which does a tank up to 45L, ours are 43L.

DO NOT put water inside the tank

I used the vinegar technique and got most, if not all rust clean off. I was told to use baking soda and water to clean the acidity off right after, but I never used sealer to finish things off. Hopefully it will be okay.

i used 3-4 bottles of $1 dollar store calcium cleaner for the bathroom heated it up and put nuts in and got out a lot of calcium deposits which is what it had only no problem yet
took out the S trap in the line replaced with 5/16 line with a flat sock screen

I will be doing the same to mine. This is how mine looks as of right now.
Is this salvageable?

Dropping the tank is straightforward and inevitable at this point. Once the tank is out, path of least resistance and some of the best money you can spend is having the tank boiled, pressure tested and lined by a reputable shop - most rad shops can do it reasonably. I say best money because a failed lining effort can lead to a bunch of trouble going forward and starting with clean fuel makes so much other future diagnosis easier...

What Dave said. The only PITA part is reconnecting the fuel lines to the tank up under the car. And hanging it - you'll notice that the back of the tank hangs by hooks which "latch" into the body. This causes cracking of the metal through into the trunk. You can drill some holes in the chassis frame and attach the hooks there instead.

Yup there can be some cracking of the metal in the trunk. My truck was welded where it was pulling
away years ago and still holds up.

But attaching the strap hooks to the frame is a good improvement (not yet done by me).
I was lucky and the fuel lines connected up quite easily for me last time.

I think I put the straps on loose first and then wiggled the tank around to get the gas lines on.

I too went with a radiator shop for my tank, they did it for 100 bucks. I just took it and picked it up.
Quite pleased so far.

At the last Solvang show, Mike Young sold me a set of brackets he designed and had made that attach to the frame and solve the trunk floor problem. I haven't installed them yet.
