Thanks for the update on the header. I remember wondering if the process was going to be one that would last.

Replaced the header to exhaust gasket today. Not so easy.

Sins of the muffler shop-

Of course the hardest to get to bolt on top was welded in place. The large head of the bolt hit the header before the flange so they could not get it tight. They welded the nut to the washer to the exhaust flange and it the process welded to nut to the bolt too. Aaagh!

Had my white walls done this morning: -
180920151803 (Large).jpg
Initially, the tyres are painted with a gloss black polymer paint which is a permanent finish.
180920151804 (Large).jpg
The area to which the white wall is to be applied, is buffed back to the tyre rubber using a special grinding wheel in an angle grinder.
180920151807 (Large).jpg
A primer is applied followed by a vivid white.
The applicator is a knurled metal wheel fed from a plastic squeeze bottle.
There are a variety of applicator widths from a pinstripe to 50 or so mm
180920151810 (Large).jpg
After about 5 minutes the paint is dry and the white wall is good to go.
180920151812 (Large).jpg
Front tyre all done. Excuse the light flare
180920151813 (Large).jpg
......and the rear.

The four tyres took about 2 hours to complete but a lot of that time was talking
Darryl is a Ford man and we chatted about classics and folks we both knew etc.
All up $90AUD.

I don't how he does it for the money

The treatment requires NO maintenance apart from regular washing with sponge and soapy water.

Just about finished putting the soft top on and we are all ready for the 2015 Bay to Birdwood Classic Rally on 27 September :D :D :D

Nissanman, Thanks for the interesting WW tire post.
Apparently you do not have enough "lowrider" kids down under.
Here in the USA they use just the right size tires for our 64-65 1500s'
155-80-13 radial narrow WW. There is enough of a market that we can readily get these size imports for under $40 a tire.
I guess we can thank goofy kids with their tires sticking half a foot outside the fender for something!

The 63 1500s came with wide WWs and the narrow WWs are correct for 64-65

Hi Ted,
We do have some of those weird ass cars but I don't think they are street legal here.
I could spend a million$ on some B.F. Goodrich "look like cross ply but are radial" white wall tyres but that will have to wait for a lottery win :(

Looks nice nissanman. I'd have gone a little wider, but even the narrow white walls are an improvement

I did a Watco teak oil touch up on my Momo Gritti wood steering wheel. Easy to use and the finish is great, but I forgot it takes 8 hrs to dry fully, so can't drive right away. :(

I installed the clutch assembly and mated the engine up to the transmission yesterday, then installed it today - there's still lots to do, but at least it gives me some motivation to finish everything else!

I used a little trick that I read about somewhere online to help line up the input shaft and the clutch splines and pilot bushing. I had some used M10x75 bolts laying around, so I cut the heads off 4 of them and screwed them into the block to use as guides while bolting the transmission to the block. The remaining shaft is long enough to easily thread out and replace with permanent bolts after everything is lined up. Easy-peasy..

Scored some teardrop sockets and other lights for under $40. One socket is missing the pins but some screws will fix that.
