Bought a 66 PL411 today!!

Post by zippy67roadster »

Well I can't pass up an old Datsun especially when the price is so low. I was driving though Ashfork, AZ last Sunday after dropping my daughter off at Girlscout camp outside of Prescott, Az. This took me down route 89 and through Ashfork as the on ramp to the 40 was closed. As luck would have it this took me right past an old service station that had the 411 sitting on the side of the property. I swerved off the road and parked while my wife yelled in surprise of my abrupt turn and stop. I checked over the car and it looked very complete with minimal rust. I asked the guy inside if it was for sale and he said that the owner of the station owned it and that he was looking to sell it. I told him I would be back through town on Friday, as I was picking up my daughter from camp, and I would speak to the owner then. On Friday I headed out. By 10:30 I was looking at the car and making a deal with the owner. I told him I would come and get it the following Friday. Well as the world goes when you have good luck you also get some bad. If any of you saw me at Solvang this April you noticed I was on a scooter and my right foot was in a cast. Well not much has changed since then and they have decided to operate on 7/10/2015 to fix the broken foot. This meant I was running out of time that I would be able to drive so I asked Keith Williams to go get the car with me today. It is now on my RV parking spot waiting its turn to be restored as I am in the middle of my 67 race roadster project. I have attached some pictures of it while it sat in the service station.

That'll be a pretty sweet little ride.

First datsun I ever drove and owned was a 67 411. They are cool cars that are fun drivers. That poor car took so much abuse between me and the subsequent drivers in my family. When I moved on to a roadster it went to my sister, then my brother and finally youngest sister, who all learned to drive in that car. Car got sold it to family friend who took it out west and eventually sold it to some migrants who loaded it up and drove it south to Mexico.

I still love the body style as it is pretty unique look and really just nice looking. I have not yet seen an east coast one worth restoring. You have a nice find there, Good luck with the rebuild.

Yes it is one of about 3 things I have noticed that isn't stock. you can see where someone cut the center of the bumper to shorten it and then welded it back together.

No problem, from what I have seen, this is what Foose does to all his projects, tucks them in tight like the factory was never allowed.
Nice dry starting point, good bones.

Let me know if you need 411 help. I have two of them on the road. Also there are several in Phoenix Bring it to the Williams Show!! Chris opened a 411 class and we are trying to get a good showing of 411. They are fun cars that get a lot of attention. Even more than my roadster

Oh btw that looks like a 410 from the taillights and grill. Maybe a 65 or 66? What does the build plate say?

Any pics of the engine compartment? 2 carbs or one? My friend had one of those years ago, an SSS model. It was pretty beat but a good fun little ride. Knowing it ate ~some~ oil, I borrowed it once and asked him what "type" of oil should I put in it to top it up...he answered "The liquid type"!!

It has a single carb and is a 66. I am registered for Williams and will only be doing enough to it to get it running to put on and off of the trailer. I am entered in the diamond in the rough category for the show.
