Hello from spain
hello my name is Steve and I'm a Englishman living in the south of Spain
I've always liked rare and unusual cars
And have been looking on this forum for info and inspiration
I am looking to buy a roadster but they are very rare over here
I have seen one for sale in the Netherlands
It's a 1966 fitted with a FJ20 on carbs ,I did a bit of searching on the web and found this add for the car on San Diego Craigslist from 2012
Does anyone know this car and have any info on it
Regards Steve
This little Fairlady roadster has had it's tired old 1600 swapped out for a FJ20ET, sans the E and the T. The motor has been stripped of it's fuel injection and turbo in favor of a set of Weber carburetors for ease of tuning. The car looks like a solid deal at $3,800 but there is some sort of fuel issue that needs to be resolved before the car can be driven hard. As usual with swapped cars, the speedometer and tach aren't functioning. This car needs a couple weekends worth of work to be fully functional again, but it does currently run and drive. Find it here, in Imperial Beach, CA. Special thanks to Dave for the submission!

Re: Hello from spain
Welcome and good luck with your search. Sorry I know nothing about the car you mentioned. Erika ladydriver on the forum is from the Netherlands. I am sure she will chime in when she sees this. She may even know of a roady for sale in the area.

Re: Hello from spain
Nice another yellow one. I like the black hood scoop. It kind of sets things apart. What kind of power are you making with the FJ20?

Re: Hello from spain
The car picture in the ad is the one I remember being for Sale in Orange County ......It a Late Model....i.e. 68-70.
The car looks to be a 68, but the rear bumper looks to be a 69. If you can get the VIN number from the frame, you can check it in the WIKI.

Re: Hello from spain
I know where the car is for sale, and that guy has a lot of cars, not be surprised you can't reach it to look under it or even open the door.
You need to make an appointment for looking!
usuall this sales man sells car which are not in a very good condition, so keep your eyes open for rust and layers of bondo.
I can't see the holes for the side moldings, DATSUN letters on the hood or for the other emblems on the fenders and butt.
what you see is what you get...
I heard that parts for FJ20 engines are hard to get exspecially ignition (but i am not sure, it is from hearing saying).
Maybe you can swap in a KA24DE engine (or maybe SR20DE), must be a lot of fun.
the car stood for sale in 2014 for €6.950,- !!!
here some pictures of it.
As you can see on the vinplate stands 1966, but the car is a high windshield and can never be from 1966. There is so much going on with the car I can't even say it could be a 1968 body and maybe the frame of the '66 because of the VINplate??...I don't know how strict they are in Spain with the rules. but if i bring this car with a incorrect serialnumber (which not matches the serial number on the frame) for a license plate check in The Netherlands, the government here is very interested in if the car has been stolen and will search for the correct numbers. It does not have to be a problem, but it could be...exspecially nothing is correct (other engine). So be aware.

Re: Hello from spain
Looking at the pictures, it looks like it might have an MSD retard box. That is the way my car was set-up when I bought it.
It retards the spark when starting and you set the timing at total advance - 32-36 degrees. Mine failed years ago.

Re: Hello from spain
Thanks for all the info
Phil I didn't spot the MSD box well done
I knew the dash was wrong but not the screen
Not bothered about the missing mouldings or lettering
I will ask about the chassis number
I would of liked it with a SR20DE as parts are plentiful and I know these engines

Re: Hello from spain
Also, It does not look like a TURBO motor, but an N/A.....
It has a N/A valve cover, turbo cover is about 1-2" taller.
You can tell if its a Turbo head by the diameter of the exhaust studs....N/A has 8mm studs, the nuts should be 12-13 mm wrench size.
The Turbo has 10 mm studs, 15-17 mm wrench size.
The turbo block has a LARGE oil return line hole in the block about 3" above the pan in the second third of the block on the exhaust side.
The N/A set-up is still very strong and should produce a tiny bit more power as it is configured.

This was the last Datsun I had in the UK
It's a 1993 sunny B122 pickup with a S15 SR20DE engine
