I singed my elbow for years on the black vinyl, finally did the box in leather.
Great suggestion, I'll do that.

Welcome to our community. As stated earlier, this is one of the best sites for ANY car. Knowledgeable people, good vendors, no question is stupid. Check out the Wiki in detail - you never know what you will find. Great fun cars and eye-turners in almost any condition. Almost everyone you meet either had one, had a relative who had one etc.etc. Thoroughly agree on driving, fixing, driving repeat, until the car is mechanically and electrically sorted, then spend money on cosmetics, once you are involved and certain this is what you want (of course, it is <G>)
And make sure the fire extinguisher is current. If not for you, then for someone else. I saved a VW Bug a few years ago.
Enjoy.

Looks like a great start with a trick looking hardtop. I wish I could have got my project running and driving before I tore it completely apart but mine was too much in disrepair. I've started my journey 3 years ago and am still working on it with the support and guidance from the members on this site. The funny thing is that I have yet to even had a ride in one. Hopefully my project will find its end (or close enough to the end) in the near future.

Get it on the road and have some fun.

I lived in St. Louis until 1990 and had a '66 1600. At the time I knew a gentleman whose first name was Bob and he had a white high-windshield roadster. He was a sports car mechanic and did a bunch of work for me, including cylinder head work on my TR4. I can't remember his last name but back then he had a shop in Madison, IL. It would be a blast if it was the same car. Back then it had slotted mags, though.

Welcome!! Very ice looking project! The Smoothline top is a good piece to have. They are still available but are a bit on the pricey side. I agree with a bunch of the guys when they say get it running and enjoy it for awhile before you tear it down and do a restoration.
