Anyone know where the "red" wire goes?

Finished getting the engine back in for this weekend, with Peter's help. Once the adjustments for the hoist were figured out it went in quickly. Next is hooking it all back up, clean up etc.
Hope to be driving soon!

Well I cleaned up some wiring and put my nearly naked dash back in.
This removal for painting turned out to be more difficult than anticipated.
Will let you know if I would do it again when it is all done.

ARP studs, yes I believe I do. I got new studs and since those are ARP nuts and washers, it would be a match.

ARP, an Org I belong to, not as much fun as this one though! Sorry for the humor on to the what did I do...

Took the wise advise herein and removed the filler neck from my head so I could clean out my temp sender hole took about 30 min (I used Anti Seize on the studs last time

).
Ran the line for the new mechanical gauge. Lost the brass sleeve (somewhere in the garage doh) I used to seat the sender before.

Placed the dash pad and the trim on the dash. Taking pictures really points out the flaws where
the dash sneaks out from the trim. Going to follow the advise on Nissanman and use
vacuum line tubing on the trim posts (much easier than the "speed" nuts!).

Looks like I'll be driving the "big" 311 for a while.

What size tubing did you get?

I made stainless studs and used anti-seize compound.

I got the smallest vacuum hose at O'Reilly. The inside hole is 7/64 inch. 1/8 drill bit will not slide in easy.

Just used the vacuum hose installing my chrome trim to the dash.
I must say it was 5 times faster than the oxymoronically named speed nuts.
At least it seemed so. Keeps the trim nice and tight too.

Now the screws holding the dash cover in place are a real pain.

Oh yes, the screws are loads of fun. I especially liked the waty they just keep crushing the bottom part of the pad since the is no surround padding.

Today I got my mechanical temp sender to seat correctly. I ordered an adapter
from summit and as I suspected the nut on it was too big for the area. So I trudged of
to ACE hardware looking for a solution. Found a bronze flange bearing 3/8 hole, 5/8 lip, 1/2
diameter and 1 inch long $3.50.

Stuck it in my lathe (a drill in a vice) to bring the 5/8 down to about 17/32 so it would go past the threads in the head.
Cut the length down to just over 3/8 and tried it out (I'm skipping so of the other ineffective trials)

It fits nice and tight now. Pictures you guys like pictures?

While at the hardware store I got some 0.055 music wire and rebuilt my heater control wire.
