Lots of cranking but no starting

Post by Redtail »

Hi all,

So for the last week my 1600 has taken more and more cranking to start. Finally today it wouldn't start at all. I'm getting a fat spark at the plugs from a GB EI, fuel to the carbs, the battery is a nearly new optima, and the starter and all wires going to it are only 2 weeks old.

I tried some starting fluid without any results. Gene suggested my choke may be out, so I adjusted the choke cable pull on both carbs without any real difference. Is it possible to have too much choke and flood the engine?

So I'm a little stumped at this point. I feel like it should start right up with spark and fuel....any ideas???

Check the plugs to see if they are fouled. Do you get fuel in your carb? or it just pumps? Could it be the valves in the floats are stuck closed and are nto allowing fuel?

Problem solved. Indeed the choke needed adjustment - guess I should have looked at that before I posted. oh well.
