so, let's present myself

Post by jayd »

As maybe several of you have discover my first topic about wheels on a Datsun Roadster from 1969 (1600cc), i just want to introduce myself.
French, nearly 50yo (yes... Shame !) but fan of great cars for a very very long time.
I owned by the past a mazda RX7 from 1980 which was one of the earlier model.
Now, my garage is made of three english cars :
one TVR 2500M from 1972 which i love a lot
one TVR Cerbera 4.5 from 2001... A monster, pure one (420hp, true ones)
Each of the TVR gives me a different pleasure, but these cars are really great
The third one is an english one but german now : a mini cooper S from 2006 ; a real toy that beats a lots of more powerfull cars as it's a real little kart. Little kit on it for 200hp
Oh i forget a "normal" car, a german one that begins with an "A", in an avant version... For the Family ! Very good car, but not a dream car at all.

And in nearly one month, a Datsun Fairlady which i bought without seing it ; only by pictures ! Maybe i'm a fool, but life needs to be risky. The car appears to me really clean.
As this car afaik wasn't imported to France (or just a little...), even the Datsun France Club doesn't know a lot about it. They told me that on their opinion less thant 10 Rodster were registered in France.
So i think this forum will help me a lot about technical problems, trics, experience shared...
First step :
waiting the car in France and coming back to Paris with it (cross fingers !)
Second step :
check nearly everything on it with my garagist who is a great man (he maintains my two tvr and he is a real mechanician)
Third step :
renewing the Hard Top and finding a fitting kit (i'm sure you will help me)
Fourth step (but it's already on the way) :
change the wheels ; for the time being, the car is delivered with oem wheels that are great, but i want to go on Rotas RB to give it a more sport "character".
I will keep the original wheels with all the needs they will deserve
Fith step :
drive the car to discover it more and more

I won't tune it cause i love cars that are in their original configuration (yeah, i know, i will change the wheels :-) )

Excuse my english, cause you know, i'm a little froggie as was saying F. Zappa (i'm a fan of him for more than 30 years now).

Many thanks for your first answers ; but, i'm sure i will have a lot of questions !

ask away - send pix when you have them.

Your 'garagist' can download a lot of the manuals from the "techwiki" pages here on this site and actually useful to spend some time just browsing through the various articles - getting some ideas of what these little cars are up to and how to keep them on the road.

Welcome Jay D! I have always said that, because of my Roadster, I have friends all around the world (well, maybe not friends, but acquaintances that share a common love!). Now I have one in France! And it turns out we have a lot in common... Age (52 this year), a love of cars (not that I have anything like your TVRs, but I can appreciate them!), and Frank Zappa (of all things! Ever walk into your garage and start singing "It wasn't very large, there was just enough room to cram the drums in the corner over by the Dodge... We could jam in Joes Garage!)... Been a fan since I was 15, and a drummer.
I believe you will love your Roadster, we all do. "There's just something about these cars" is how many of us would describe it. I hope you got a good example, but regardless we are here to help in any way possible so you can represent the group in France! Do send pictures, and ask any questions. Your English seems pretty darn good to me... Much better than I have ever spoken a foreign language!
Welcome to the family, we look forward to hearing about the car and what ever adventures she leads you on. And send some pics of the step brother TVRs!

Many thanks to all !
Good to know that the Roadster Family looks like similar at the little TVR Family in France !
Special Greg : i'm a fan of Frank Zappa since 15yo... And by the way... I have played drum for more than 20 years !

Welcome Jay D and glad you decided to join us. You should be able to find most of the answers to questions you might have regarding your new toy. No dumb questions here and you will get some good advice. I agree-your English is very good since my French is non-existent you have one up on many of us here. Go pin your self on the interactive map here http://www.311s.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=21971 There are several roadster owners in Germany, many in the Netherlands-so you are not alone. None of them have pinned so be the first. Enjoy!!

Ha! How perfect is that! Another drummer! I've had my Gretch set since age 17, 8 piece double bass, modified and added to over time, a good friend for many many years, just like my Roadster (owned nearly 30 yrs now). "Of course I'll introduce you to Warren..." (a line from Crew Slut, from Joes Garage... Warren Cuccurollo was the drummer on that album...)... Nobody knows what were talking about here unless you're a Zappa fan.
So, if I visit France, not only will I have a Roadster to drive, but a drum set to abuse as well! Gotta get the band back together man! I've got these bass lines that keep playin in my head...

Cool garage JAyD. I had a 72 Triumph GT6 with the 2500 same as Your TVR. I always loved the TVRs. Also loved the German Capris from the the early 70s....and Zappa, Joe's Garage...the genesis of my Avatar.

Love my roadsters best

I'm moving to Montana....

Frank: "It looks just like a Telefunken U47... with leather."

Nice! And with center caps already very good for sure. And it does not look like a Burnt Weeny Sandwich (tossed in for the Zappa fans)!
