I got new rims

Post by Conner »

Friday night I jumped on a listing for some slotted mags for sale down in San Antonio. Yesterday we shot down there and made the deal. These are my new wheels, they will look loads better than the steelies that came with my car.

They are 15x5.5s and the seller said they came on one of his 240zs, reportedly they were originally a dealer option. The inside of the rim says "Gardena, CA." I estimate they weigh between 15 and 20 pounds. They are polished and should look pretty good after I clean them up.
Evan's 5-slots look really good on his car so when I saw these I was all over them.

Thanks! Those 15's will look awesome... and you could probally find lower profile tires than what I have, so they will look a WHOLE lot better!

I'm not sure mine have as deep a dish as yours, which is one of the cool things about yours.
We'll see when I get them on the car!

It's funny, I yell at my daughter when she calls wheels rims. At least she doesn't want a set of 20" spinning "rimz" anymore.

I have 14". I'm going to wait til spring, no sense letting new tires sit in the garage. I may put my car on Ebay in spring, set a high reserve and see if it goes. Also just bought another truck and had to put 500.00 worth of tires on it, so will let that wound heal a bit.

Hey guys, a buddy of mine has a 1993 nissan sentra. The stock rims on it were 13s. He put brand new tires on it for winter and then ended up buying a nice set of rims. He told me he'd sell me the 13s with the brand new tires on it for 50 bucks. Would those rims fit my car? I know the size of the rims are smaller than the ones on the car, but the tires on my car have the tread coming off. Would these rims work with my bolt pattern? Thanks in advance- 67 roadster

Generally, if they clear the brakes and the fenders and suspension the tire height is the only other issue. I think Sentras are 4 on 4 1/4, roadster 4 on 4 1/2. My wheels are from a 240sx, fit the roadster, would not fit my daughters NX1600, which was Sentra based. Other years may be different. I think the brake caliper clearance wil be the issue.

If nothing else, buy them and sell or trade to get what you need. Are there any used tire dealers by you?

Hey Conner,

Check your clearance to the lip of the rear fender before getting tires mounted. You can roll the lip, but if they are 240z wheels, your tire width may be limited...

Thanks, I will check it out. I mis-posted when I started this thread. The wheels are actually 14s.
I think they should fit okay given their diameter. I'm open to tire suggestions, though.

No offense to anybody with this setup (I have this setup) but... I dont really dig the look falken Azenis 195/60-14. They are a little too high of a profile for me... i really like the way 185/60-14s look. Conner, right now I have 195-60 in the back and 185-60 in the front, that will give you something to go off of!

All modern Sentras (save the SE-R Spec V) have a 4x100mm bolt pattern. Also, offset would be seriously wrong, even if the bolt pattern matched up. :x

As a side note (albeit on topic), American Racing has recently started making these wheels again, in both 15x7 and 17x7 sizes. 8)

The pricing from American is not bad, either! But getting a 7" wheel in the rear fender is not easy.

Hey Conner - check the wheels carefully. Are they 0 offset? Most early Z slotted mags were. If so, you may have trouble to the fender lip. Your car may have less trouble since it is not an early car (I have heard that they are supposed to be the same except for the exterior lip, although I have had tires that cleared my 70 not fit my 66). You can also consider removing a bit of material from the inside face of the wheel. Even though these wheels are old, the same casting supported much bigger cars. Have someone very competent evaluate the modification and machine it right.

Your wheels would fit best (confirm the measurement!) with 12mm of offset toward the inside of the car. That will clear the fender lip and higher up in the body. (In a turn, a bump casues my tires to rub high up in the well).

Good luck with it! I hope this helps you avoid the problems I have run into! TR
