Today it was beautiful in the great Northwest, so I decided to take the Blaster out to the new house... But instead spent some time tracking down a poor running condition. In the end, after checking the megajolt wiring, checking fuel pressure, reading plugs, cleaning jets, I think it can be attributed to bad gas. She was pretty low, and I'm not sure how long the Stable in the gas was going last. Once the new gas had a chance to flow and the carbs were shot clean, she woke up again. A quick run with my daughter, who happened to stop by, confirmed she was liking the cool air. The Dellortos barked, the tact would swing towards 7, and then you'd grab the next gear and do it again. Oh fun fun fun. Now she sits in the garage, happy again. Man, I love this stupid car...

Worked on my 1964 SPl310 today. After attempting to install new tires several weeks ago, the car was running poorly on the drive home from the shop. Installed a fresh fuel filter, but didn't really fix the issue. Car was running low on fuel. Filled a red gas container with several gallons of fresh gas and put into the roadster tank. That helped. But, car was still running rough and only on three cylinders.

Checked for spark and zapped myself when testing #1. Yes...#1 had good spark :)

Pulled the spark plugs ...and oh my old & crusty. These plugs looked 20 years old! And, #1 had zero/no gap!

Bough a fresh set of plugs, gapped them & installed ...now running better than ever.

On Sunday will bleed out the brakes , then onto SRL #565

Plodding away on the blue car. Shimmed the upper tensioner, tried a new oil filter with the rod installed slowed down the rattle. After I installed the shims the rattle is gone. Installed the brake brace. The rebuild kit for the master cylinder is in the mail. I'm rebuilding the calibers today. Then it's on to the rear brakes. I need to order some tires, still on the fence as to what to buy. Not many choices in the size I want. Shooting for April !st to have it on the road.

When switching wheels I noticed some play in the left front. Replaced the bad wheel bearing and it felt better. Then noticed a clunk when moving the wheels left-right-left-right. Replaced the idler box, cleaned all the tie rod ends, new rubber boots and greased everything. Now there is a smaller clunk in the spindles/wheel area. Poked around and found play in the lower ball joints. Those have been ordered and will be next weeks project. Feels better with each fix. It was just hard for me to find everything in the beginning as the problems with lots of slop masked the areas with smaller amounts of play.

After enjoying a nice wild salmon supper at Salish Lodge with Alex,
my car had NO lights,,, arrrrg. Checked the fuses. With a keen eye and plenty of DAILY driving experience, Alex spotted the tint on the fuse. We replaced it and were on our way!

Carb cleaning day 1. One down, one to go. I'm glad I decided to leave one in tact for referencing when putting it back together. All mechanisms now moving much more freely and smooth. Feeling accomplished!

Well, it wasn't my Datsun, but..

Kevin, Erik, and I put a body on a frame (Erik was playing the role of Mike, since I am usually watching from the side).. Decided to put it on video. Of course I forgot to start the camera as we wheeled the body in on the cart.. Anyway, 17 minutes and 18 seconds later, I stopped the camera.. Kevin has a lot of plumbing and wiring to do still, but..

Ready for assembly..

Hello New Friends,

I am the new Guy...sort of...owned a 1969 1600 back in the 80's when I was a pup. Yesterday 3/9/15, I bought this 1970 2K, and had it towed home, it had not ran in years.

Today: New Battery, replaced hoses, drained tank, removed plugs, filled cylinders with WD-40, top'd off oil and water, test crank...good, new fuel, every thing back together, a little starting fluid....crank-crank-crank...IT'S ALIVE!!!

Problems so far: fuel dripping on filter side of carb, lots of engine movement, and stuck rear brakes.

The Dogs approve, I don't think all 3 of us will fit...The wife thinks I need therapy.

Now the FUN begins: Brakes, Paint, Interior, Top, Rubber, Chrome, Wheels, Tires, etc..etc..etc..testing the "Outer Limits" of my credit cards.

My Vision: Silver and Red, black canvas, and maybe some spoked footware.

Looking forward to your help, and meeting y'all soon.

Welcome. Nice looking car. Nice looking dogs. And your wife is probably right.
The tech Wiki on this site is full of invaluable information, and you can search it and the forum For anything and everything. You'll want to de-smog that engine, read about the "evil L", and grab an EI distributor before you reach the "Outer Limits".
At the rate you're already going, you'll be driving it soon.
John

Welcome Car Nerd! That's a nice unmolested Roadster. IT's not often you see them with 100% of the smog intact. You'll definitely want to remove all that, but I do love the originality of it all. Definitely save all the removed parts for true originality 30 years from now. Is there any back story with this one? Why (and where) did it sit for so long? Looks like it may have at least been covered during that time. Thanks for sharing.
