SR20 exhaust options
I'm wondering if anyone has pictures of their exhaust solutions for sr20 conversions. I tried searching the boards for info but didn't come up with anything. I'm interested in manifold and routing. Thanks in advance!

Re: SR20 exhaust options
I build a full 2" stainless steel or galvanized system which does not require ANY mods to the frame. Precision formed bends made on the same equipment used to make roll bars - no kinks like muffler shop crap. I'll add some photos tomorrow eve. You won't find a nicer system! Jt

Re: SR20 exhaust options
Use a FWD Sentra SE-R or Infiniti G20 exhaust manifold to clear the steering, and build a simple down pipe to make a 90-degree bend, then 2" out to the rear.
Some photos from my wife's SR20 build:

The manifold uses o-ring gaskets, so you need to extend the pipe about 3/8" for them to sit on-- we have the flanges laser cut (and can sell you one).

Fits nice and tight to the block, clears the steering shaft:

We usually then add a flex section before the x-frame:

I like to use a catalytic converter on our conversions (to get rid of the exhaust smell) and we mount that in the x-frame:

Through the back half of the x-frame to a large, flat stainless muffler:

And then up and over the rear axle...
Hope that helps,
Michael

Re: SR20 exhaust options
I had the header custom built for my new motor, for the original, I used the SE-R manifold..
So I spent a good part of the day with Brandon putting my exhaust together.. As usual, I was there causing delay and getting in the way, but I really like to watch and help if I can..
All stainless, all beautiful, will fit SR20DE or VE..
Parts taking shape.. V-band and flex pipe..
Axle jump
Header final assembly begins..
All 4 in..
Test fit collector to line it up before final..
Fits.. Sealing it up..
And here it is in the car.. Checking collector fit after tacking up..
Sealing the collector..

Re: SR20 exhaust options
This is the exhaust on Jon's car. Slightly different routing than Michael's. We went inside the shock. Also it's oversize for the big turbo motor, but this could just as easily be built in 2 inch instead of 3, and it would not require the oversize x frame passage.
3" mandrel bent stainless all the way back, including the axle hop between the extra torque arm and the shock.
Downtube, O2 sensor bung, and flexpipe..
Flexpipe back..
Tailpipe..

Re: SR20 exhaust options
2" system. You can see the bore of the resonator is much bigger than oem on this system. Very little difference at the bumper end so it looks almost original. In the second photo you can see the special SS clamps (included) that eliminate the pretzel clamps (which are too small for 2"). These use the original mounting points on the frame and heavy duty isolators. The pipes have flats where they go through the frame.
For 1600 owners and those who want to stay stock, I make the same system in 1 3/4.
Both systems are turn key-no frame mods required.
The 2" is perfect for normally aspirated KA or SR cars.

Re: SR20 exhaust options
The pipe runs through the front frame member, frame mounts and then stops with a few extra inches of pipe provided to work with. Most people use a SS flex pipe there and attach to the header. To me it looks like M. Spriso's down pipe with a 2" flex pipe is the easy way to meet up with my system for an SR. Very simple an elegant.

Things sure get tight in a hurry! Took me about 3 attempts before I got it right.

Re: SR20 exhaust options
Has anyone ever used a header for a 200sx? I am concerned about the steering shaft. surprise!

Re: SR20 exhaust options
The off-the-shelf headers for a FWD SR20 will not work in a roadster as they hit the steering shaft.
