SR20 DET Questions

Post by Skyman »

There is a SR20 DET being sold locally. The guy is wanting $1,700 for it. He states it is a JDM motor. He has the head off, and just looked at the lower end. Seller states new bearings are on the crank, and has Wiesco forged pistons. It is a S13 red top motor. I was really looking for a S14 but this seems like a great deal I can pick up locally. I don't know much about these motors. Here is a description below. SR20 experts, let me know your thoughts.

Up for sale is a full SR 20 DET swap. Comes with Motor, transmission (five speed manual), axles, driveline, manifold, turbo, and a few other miscellaneous parts. it will come with a new head gasket. The head is off the motor so you can inspect it. I had this for an old Datsun project but picked up a different motor for it. Thanks for looking.

It comes down to what you feel your are comfortable with-- if it is just a head gasket replacement, then that is a simple job.

We don't normally recommend buying "project" engines-- I don't like the fact that people have had their hands in there, and you never know what has been lost or reinstalled incorrectly-- then it is just heartache down the road.

Reasonable minds may differ...

Do you feel lucky?

There is a lot that could be said, but the bottom line is you won't know what you have until you tear apart the bottom end.

At that point, you either got a good deal or not, but you will own it regardless
