close call
Well here is a story I thought I'd share with you all. Lately my garage door has been acting up (its motorized) and the motor was been making a noise. Well about a week ago, i pushed the button for the garage and it went up no problem, no noises. I pulled my datsun forward, and my brother was there, so I let it idle (when it first came here it didnt want to run) so i was proud that i got it running, so then i shut it off and showed him where i started sanding it down and primering it, as we're standing there the garage door motor makes a horrible sound and the garage door starts to fall (my datsun was parked half way out of it), it was moving fast (in slow motion for me) and my brother knelt down to the ground and pushed as hard as he could and the car barely made it past, then the door smacked the ground hard, hard enough to dent the bottom of the door, if it would've landed on my car it probably would've dented my door downs, he saved it. I shook his hand, and took him to dinner. Just thought I'd share my close call with you guys and see if any of you have a story similar- michigan 67

Well that'll teach ya! Sorry, had to be the first to say it. I'm willing to bet that for the rest of your life you will never make the park 1/2 way out mistake.
I've never had the luck of having a garage door fall on my car. I have however, had the support cable break while I was under the door. It was a rain soaked, 9'x10' wood door. It caught me right on the back as I walked through. It just grazed my back and left a nice bruise right above my pelvis. Had it hit me square on, I have no doubt it would have killed me. Once I recovered for the shock, my buddy Tim and I tried to lift the door back up to fix it. We were able to pry it up with a block of wood and a long prybar. We slid 2x4s under it to hold it up off the ground enough for us to get our hands under there to lift. Tim's 6'3, 300+ pounds. I'm significantly smaller but still quite strong. The two of us together could not lift the door an inch up off those 2x4s. It was that heavy! Like I said, it would have killed me. Not to mention what it could do to a Roadster!
So, kids, don't park 1/2 way under garage doors!
