Hopefully I'll be attending the SVRA Driver's school this February at TWS with my 1600. She's currently wearing 10 year old Hoosiers, so that's not gonna work. Given the below choices, what's the best option?
Approved tires:
Avon treaded vintage racing tires
Dunlop treaded vintage racing tires
Englebert treaded vintage racing tires
Goodyear Vintage Sports Car Special (Blue Streaks)
Hoosier bias ply Street TD’s and Vintage TD’s
Kumho V70
Toyo RA1
Yokohama A008RSII and A008P
Yokohoma A032R
Hoosier DOT bias ply dirt stocker
I'm pretty cheap, but not when it comes to tires... that's not an area to skimp on, so I'm definitely looking for grip over value.
Thanks!

I think it depends on what group you are running with. I like Toyo RA1s, but they aren't a bias ply. I've run Hoosier Street TDs, and those were lots of fun. They stick well, but take a little getting used to if you normally run RA1s or higher performance rubber. I'm guessing your Kuhmo V70 is actually the V700. Not a bad tire, but I think an RA1 might be faster. I'm a big fan of the RA1s, followed by the Street TDs. The V700s would be 2nd behind the RA1 if non-bias ply tires can be run. I dont have any experience with the others.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

I think you'll find the only thing available now that is SVRA legal that comes in a size to fit the roadster are the Hoosier TDs, Toyo R888 and the Nitto NT01. I've always raced on the Hoosier TD bias ply tire but tried the Nitto NT01 this season to try a radial. The radials are much cheaper but ideally should be shaved. They also last longer. I'm going to stick to the Nittos for now.
I can turn a faster single lap on the Hoosier TDs but I think the radials are faster overall during a race because they are more consistent from the start and then don't fall off as much at the end of the race. The radials have a crisper turn in but are twitchy at the limit. The Hoosiers like a much larger slip angle so you need to rotate the car more at turn in and slide the car through the apex to be really quick on them. If your just starting out I would recommend the radials. They like lots of camber and will still work on a damp track. The Hoosiers work best with less than a degree of camber and don't like wet at all. You'll need wet tires in addition to the Hoosiers.

I would suggest Toyo RA1s I have been running them for years on my roadster and they are a great tire. Trick is to have the pressures set up right so that they come in as you get into your racing session. Again more details PM me.
