Make sure you test fit the speedo pinion before running the car. Primarily check the diameter to make sure it is the same as your current one. The 'carriers' are variously offset to compensate for differing diameters.
How many teeth are on the pinion?

Yes, you need the alternate gear holder. Ralley has it. I got the pinion gear years ago, but it took me a very very long time to find the carrier. If the 3.7/3.9 carrier is used with the 4.1 pinion, things will bind hard. If everything works smoothly before the pinion gear is added, then suddenly it doesn't turn, its the pinion gear needing the alternate carrier.

NISSAN carriers are available P/N 32702-58Sxx - where xx is the number of teeth. Does require a bit of fiddling, but I have had one in Eliza for quite some time with no problems.

And it's not just the differential - depends upon the diameter of the tires.

what I meant was that the diameter of the tires affects the speedometer reading. Ross has a good read in the Tech-Wiki.

^ I know exactly how tires affect the speedo reading, thanks; been racing cars for a while now. At least in my case, they change it way less than having the wrong speedo gear.

I can also change the tires anytime if it bothers me (it doesn't, since I've been running short tires since I bought the car).

Alex, So far the Giken LSD has been driven around Kevin's long block twice.. Once to find out that 5th gear was not there, once to confirm that the new 5th gear was..

No, unfortunately, they don't. They also don't sell the carrier separately. I think we're back to using Ross's trick of modifying the old carrier.

OR, I can just ignore my speedo, which I pretty much do anyway.

Interesting. I'm 99% sure that is where I found mine a couple years ago. I want to say it was $100 or so. The funny thing is that now my odometer reads pretty close, but the speedo is still 25 mph high. I guess I got lucky when I found mine. I had been looking for a very long time.

in order to make it work, we had to spin the sleeve the gear fits into and make a new notch for the lock tab to fit. Not complicated but good to know before you take the old one out and have oil pouring down your sleeve if trans is still in car.

Kevin was familiar with the mod and knew what Ross was describing.
