ready for street?

Post by 67 roadster »

hey guys, when i first start my car up, both the carbs like to backfire. I don't know if it is because its cold out (as its been about 30-50 degrees out) but they do it continuousily sp?) also it revs up to close to 3500 rpms just in neutral parked? any ideas why? also one of my carb domes (the one closest to the firewall) sticks open after awhile. Thanks in advance guys

You should make sure the timing is set correctly and the valves are adjusted properly before you start tweaking on the carbs. Could be a vacum leak or maybe leaky throttle bodies. Are the carbs rebuilt? Backfiring usually indicates a lean condition but not always. If the bushings in the throttle bodies are worn and leaking you will never get the carbs dialed in. Is this a car that once ran before you tore into it or was it a non-runner? Keep us posted on your progress.
