Re: New Datsun fairlady owner in Australia
Hey Matt, today I figured my Datsun is a 1966 sp311 not a 1965 sp311. Do you know which more rare or more valuable?

According to "Fair Lady" by Phill Brook, RHD SP311-0001 - SP311-02000 were produced from '65 to '67.
That is a fairly large batch of cars so rarity would depend on surviving cars in that group.
It would be more valuable with matching numbers, which I assume you have

Re: New Datsun fairlady owner in Australia
Thanks, the car is original with all matching numbers. I purchased the car assuming it was a 65 so I'm glad to hear it's not worth less as a result. Redbook suggests it's worth more but I don't really think that redbook values carry much weight when it comes to these beautiful automobilesNissanman wrote:According to "Fair Lady" by Phill Brook, RHD SP311-0001 - SP311-02000 were produced from '65 to '67.

If you are looking to sell it on, it is only worth what the buyer will pay.
We all have that scenario!

Hi and welcome to the forum. I can't wait to see the pictures of your new ride. If you find you need any parts contact Darren at All Classic Imports. He also happens to publish the Roadster Club magazine Roadster over there.

Re: New Datsun fairlady owner in Australia
So restoration is well on the way and we are now in the process of removing the body from the chassis and will then cut out the floor pan on both passenger and driver sides so the fabricator can copy the original floor pan and supply new panels ☺
While the body is off it will be soda blasted and prepped for its new silver paint job. Super exciting will keep you updated and post pics when i can

Re: New Datsun fairlady owner in Australia
That floor pan, at least from the photos, does not look that bad, why not consider small patch panels and retain as much of the original as possible?
I realize that he is in the USA, but Ross at Sports Imports makes patch panels for the floor plans, even with shipping that might be more cost effective that custom made pans?

Re: New Datsun fairlady owner in Australia
Thats actually who i have been talking to, his panels are a perfect fit for the footwell sections left and right side. The panels may also work for the under seat section with some modifying. The panels look like these. They are $109 USD per panel ($99 USD if you buy 3+) and shipping by air is quite expensive. Niel from RustRite in sydney can replicate both sides of the floor pan in any thickness etc for around $500 AUD has been doing so for 30 years.

Re: New Datsun fairlady owner in Australia
Does anyone know how much just the body of a datsun roadster weighs?
Answered in other post - About 200kg is the estimate.

Don't forget to mount metal braces in the door frames when they come off. Body can bend if you don't.

Hey Matt, hows things? Thanks for the tip. Need to also thankyou for introducing me to Lou. He has supplied me a new fuel pump and brake calipers thus far and hopefully will be supplying the suspension upgrade kit also. His help and advice has been much appreciated.
