Peter: Are you going to powdercoat, or paint?
I just shot some VHT wrinklepaint on the center dash console panel. Should be dry in about 24 hours...Will take some pictures tomorrow evening.

I was planning to primer, sand, then paint. I'm open to suggestions though, keep me posted on the VHT wrinkle paint!datsun65 wrote:Peter: Are you going to powdercoat, or paint?

I used Rustoleum spray from Lowe's. I think I used the "Textured finish" in a dark color and then covered it in semi-gloss (or was it flat?) black. Looks identical to the dash even though I painted it many, many years after the dash was done. Still looks great.

Honestly, it's been so long I don't recall, but not an off brand, possibly rustoleum but I can't be sure. It was specifically wrinkle finish, not hammered which I now would have preferred. Sorry, if I find an old can I'll let you know.peeeter wrote:What brands were they?Gregs672000 wrote:Regarding wrinkle paint, the ones I have used (autoparts store bought) STINKS, even after its dry for months. I used my new valve spring gauge and calibration spring to check my new Nissan valve springs. The new ones come up to spec for pressure. The old ones had become weak. Instead of 105 to 110 lbs for the outer springs I now have 150 or more lbs at compressed height.
66 stroker, almost done.
67 basket case, paint coming soon.

I used VHT Wrinkle Paint on a very rough center section console for my 67.5 2000. It came out pretty good, but not a perfect 100%.
I simply cleaned the old faceplate with soap and water and let it dry.
VHT recommends 3 coats of paint, sprayed about 5-10 minutes apart. I sprayed it at night, in the dark , and a curved section of the center console was a little light on paint. So the next morning, I sprayed a 4th coat which made the 'wrinkle' pattern at the top where it was thicker a bit bigger than I wanted.
However, it does look so, so much better.

Ive used this wrinkle paint as well. After 3 coats, I used a heat gun to activate the wrinkle in about 5 minutes. It made all the wrinkle about the same consistency. I think it came out well.

I learned my lesson after last time and got myself a fire extinguisher.

Also, I threw on some black 280z hub caps for now.

This evening I put some weaker throttle return springs in. Just a tad lower in K value than before. No more jerky throttle. Then I took her for a flogging on some freshly paved roads.
