Ford EDIS Crank Triggered Ignition
I know many of you cringe at the thought of non-Nissan parts on your cars.
This is probably the easiest/cheapest way to get a true crankfire ignition on your car. "If you are into that."

This just outlines how I did the install. For all of the other details you'll have to go to the links and read, read, read.
Cheers

Sam,
Great! How do you like it? Did you notice a power/milage increase? How long have you had it running?
Mark,
That would be also the "smart" way to do it, too! Many benefits to having a newer, more efficient engine in the car. However, easy and smart just don't happen to work for me for some reason!!!
This car has turned from "hobby" to rolling "classroom/lab" for me. The last 1 1/2 yrs working on this thing has been a real education with all the mods and research I have done to try to bring up the power, efficiency, and drivability. I have learned so much, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything!
More modifications in the works, but the heart of this car will stay R series based. I am shooting for 40+ mpg and 110+ hp at the wheels. Keeping my fingers crossed.

"No Change in power or milage"?
Does it run any different at all? What was the issue that made you "resort" to this system?
What system are you using? Megajolt Lite? Megasquirt?
I did the swap cause I couldn't (or anyone else it seemed) get the car to run properly, pass "aircare" emissions. Even with a Pertronix/Jacobs setup with a solid stock dizzy.
The change was really noticeable, so maybe something wasn't working properly in my dizzy. BUT, I think you should be getting some gains from this system!
Were you running an MSD or similar before the swap?
Care to share your "map"? Did you just do a "seat of the pants" map, or dyno time? Still trying to sort it out?

For those that may be interested and have read the writeup,
I fired up my stroker engine last week and pin 11 (CTO) of the EDIS module does indeed drive my Classic Instruments electronic tachometer.
The stroker engine? It sounded good, but I was having overheating problems. checked the rad the next day and it was dry at the top, so guess my "burping" efforts weren't good enough. will try again soon.

This thread at msefi.com shows the EDIS system in operation on a test bench (pictures).

Those look like pretty good sparks!
PS: 26 straight days of rain and counting! Not all day, but every day. IF it stops, I'll be able to push the car out of the garage and fire it up again to sort out the bugs.......
