The tires came with the wheels, so did not want to spend money on another set new tires.
When those horrible French tires are worn I would like something else.
We don't have a replacement age, but as a mechanic I don't want to drive around with old rubbers.
And we are thinking of other springs in the future, those competition springs are a bit to low. We have "enough" clearance now but the bumpstops come in regurlary on bumpy roads. Not a smooth ride when you are not on the asfalt/better roads.
We jacked the car full in the suspension to see how much clearance there was in the fenders. Rightside was OK but the left side hit the fender, don't know why but we used two extra rubber rings between the spring at the left side to give it the needed clearance/
I will check in the future what the other guys are driving. And skip French rubber and go hunting for maybe some Japanese...Toyo?

Have you trimmed the bump stops as suggested in the Bob Sharp manual?

Keep in mind that trimming the bumpstops will make fender clearance even worse with those tires. Go to a 195/60 or 55-series and trim the stops as Sid suggested.

I bought new low bumpstops, you can see them in the picture in the middle

We have been to Norway with the compsprings, definetly need another setup. Other competition springs will make the difference for a smoother ride.

I dumped my comp rear springs. Try and find springs from a 66. They are a little stiffer than the 67.5 and later. I've gone back to the stock 67.5 rears with a 2" lowering block and comp fronts up front. This combo has been working well for me.

I ma looking for a set of the western cyclone wheels for my datsun roadster. Do you you what size rim will fit? I am guessing a 14x5.5 would be good, but I have seen some that are 14x7 and not sure if that would be too wide. Also could a 15" rim also work? Do these cyclone wheels come with a standard backset, or is that something that must be researched as well? any help or advice would be appreciated!

14x7 might be too wide, depends on your suspension setup. same applies to 15's. 4" backspacing or close to +15mm offset seems to work well on 6" wide rims for our cars.

Thanks Alvin, you just made my day. One of those great small world moments. I saw Ed's post the same day that we decided to sell a set of Cyclone wheels. It was Ed's first post on 311 and he was a bit surprised when I contacted him. I sent photos and he purchased the wheels and tires. Now about a month later you post wheel pictures and the first one is the car my wife bought in Oct. and those are the very wheels that Ed now owns.

On a lark I contacted a guy on crags list for a 69 2000 in Minn. It really seemed to be in great shape and a good price. I was day late in emailing him and I was second in line and the first guy bought it.

Yea, yea... I like center caps as well, but they need to be removed before racing so they don't fly off on track. Feel free to steal that excuse... it's true.

Stock suspension. Plenty of room.
