You really expect to get a stock roadster with a stock exhaust under the sound restrictions at Laguna? That is funny. 90dB is so low that you'd be hard pressed to get anything with a stock exhaust in. Perhaps a Prius might make it.

They would go out of business if only Prius could use the track. Hmmm do I detect some taste of bitter? What did you eat Will? :-)
Will trade guitars for roadsters, food, shelter, clothes, etc, etc.

Does Laguna restrict sound only on track days? When Im out there during the Historic races, its so loud I wear earplugs on some of the races.

Cut and pasted right from the flyer... "July 25 Fri – Laguna Seca 90 db - Registration"

Laguna Seca has a 90db sound limit for most of the events there now. Yes, there are a handful that are open sound days, but those might be a total of 25 per year. The historics eat up most of those as well as the big name races (ALMS, SCCA Runoffs ect) I'm not sure if there are any open sound days for track days there anymore.

I'd love to run there again, but the simple fact is that my car doesn't even come close to 90 db (measured 99.5dB the one time I have been able to run there. It was a 101 dB weekend) I don't even bother looking to run there anymore. I know I can't.

I read the compliance rules for the day - sound is clearly an issue, but you will also need a roll bar/hoop to get past the broomstick test… so that rules me out from attending.

If you want to come out and run the car, come up to Sears Point on Saturday, we are running a "fun" autocross with no timing but lots of seat time, $75. No sound restrictions, no roll bar needed, but you will need a DOT helmet. We will also do some parade laps on the big track at lunch time. No we won't be doing race speed on the big track, but its a chance to drive on the big track. You can also catch a ride with the people doing the track day if you want. Its low key, no pressure, just come out and have fun. If you haven't done any track days before, and autoX is a good place to start. It will teach you all the basics that come into play on the big track at higher speeds (and bigger consequences if you blow it). It would be great to see another roadster out running. At this point we only have 25 people signed up. Walk up is fine. If you are interested and want more specifics, shoot me a PM.

^ I was going to recommend the same, Alvin. Attending the autocross event is a great way to start and get to know your roadster in a safer environment!

Had a great time at Laguna in '09... not in a roadster though:

Leading the NSX :D

...which then blasted past me in turn 9. :|

Would love to run the roadster there... its actually a great place to get some track experience, better suited to momentum cars like the roadsters than some of the tighter, more technical tracks I've been on. As for the noise restrictions, it was 92.5 dB in 2009 measured from the sound booth on the outside (RH side) of turn 5. People had creative ways to deal with it:

Only 1 of our group was flagged for noise, and that was a turbo car with atmospheric wastegate dumps that had to re-plumb them to recirc. Was back on the track that day.

... if only I wasn't 3 days away and in a different country...

I agree it's fun to see driver's solutions to sound requirement

I still love this track and enjoy it, it's a must do and like you said momentum cars like ours thrive here!
