S15 SR20DET into my 69 Roadster
So I was out looking for a Muscle car one day and came upon an ad on CL for a 69 Roadster. The ad read Barn find.I always liked these cars so I changed my thinking a bit. The car was 3 hours away so I couldn't just hop in the car to go look at it. Instead I called the guy and he said it has been sitting in his barn for about 25 years and it ran when he parked it but needed a little carb work. He said the body was solid except for a little rust in the corner of the trunk. It was going to be a couple of weeks before I could get out there so I took him for his word and sent him $3500 through paypal. Man will I ever learn that people lie?
Long story short I have it and it needs a lot of work so why not go all out and put a S15 SR20DET in it? I don't know the first thing about Turbos so I will be asking a lot of questions along the way and this will take me a long time to complete as I do almost everything myself.
When I have time to figure out how to shrink my pics I will add them. It drives me crazy when I find threads that use Photo bucket only to find that the image has been deleted so I don't want to go that route.

Re: S15 SR20DET into my 69 Roadster
I have been reading his post. In fact it seems I find new ones all the time. I wish I would have found the one on the ford 8" rear end before I found the one on the Mazda GLS SE rear end. LoL. As soon as I read his Mazda post I ran out and bought one. Then I read his post on the Ford and wanted one. Wanting the best and not being a patient man don't always go hand in hand.greydog wrote:Read every post by Spriso. Follow his lead and youll have a great car.

I tried to upload pics with my first post but they were to big. So I had a friend download a photo editor to my computer so I could get some smaller photos uploaded.Roman wrote:Welcome and good luck with your new project. As to pics you can upload them to this site directly from your computer.

That isn't vinyl. That is rubber backed carpet. Isn't it beautiful. lol. They actually did a really good job putting it in. I thought about leaving it as a sound dead inner under the carpet. Not sure it would help though. What are people using for seats in these cars?RCMike wrote:That OG vinyl on the floors and package tray is awesome.. Love it!

Stock seats with headrests are pretty decent really. Some install Miata seats and like them, but they sit higher (there are mods that can be done however). Not a lot of room for aftermarket or other choices I gather. Consider stock before you go digging too far!
And welcome to our group/family/addicts! Not sure what your experience has been with other car sites, but we here are friendly, helpful, addicted and very supportive. Other car sites I've seen have been full of jackasses... not here! No such thing as a stupid question, even if it's been asked a thousand times. Feed your addiction by posting your location (if you like) and be invited to local gatherings, BBQ engine pull and bull sessions, etc. Enjoy your new ride... it may be your last, or at least one of your favorites! Ask anybody here, there is something about these cars...

Properly upholstered stock seats can be quite comfortable as well as letting you sit low. Most seat replacement options I have seen make one sit too high. Myself, I like sitting IN the car.Loopy wrote: What are people using for seats in these cars?

Well that is 2 for stock seats. Any idea where a guy could get headrest for them?

Check with some of the vendors or ebay, or put in the classifieds a parts wanted post. there are plenty of headrests out there. Expect to recover them but they can be had.,

Re: S15 SR20DET into my 69 Roadster
Bad news. I started tearing down the car to make room for the swap and found more and more signs of previous damage. It looks like the car took a pretty good hit in the right side as there are buckles behind the dash and on the cowl and inner fender. The right rear fender was put on by someone who didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. So rather then putting a ton of money into it I am on the lookout for another one. So I guess I will be parting this one out in the future. But not until I get what I need off of it.

Some of this damage may be normal production facility. yuh know big hammers and tin snips. second opinion is warranted.
