Fuel economy.
Just throwing a general question out there to everyone.
What kind of fuel economy are you guys getting?
I worked mine out on a recent trip I took. About 50% town driving and 50% highway (between 60mph and 80mph).
This is in a 1600 R series with a 4 speed.
For this trip I worked it out as:
8.67 liters/100 km or in the old money 27.13 miles/gallon(US)
How does this compare with what you guys normally get?

This question is routinely asked here and on the mailing list. IIRC, the range on a 1600 is 13-35 mpg with the average being 25-27mpg.

I have gotten as high as 33 on the freeway, and as low as 5 around town. I just installed 37mm venturis and new jets however. With the venturis, it seemed about the same, with the new 165 main fuels and 65 pilots, it seems a little thursty, but I havent gone anywhere with it either so its hard to tell.

Sorry, I find modern engine swaps revolting. Keep your G, R, or U series in your Roadster!

How in the he!! do you get 5mpg? Running a 2liter w/ 50 mm carbs and 47 mm chokes, 75 pilots, OB jet block w/ 185 main jet and a 195 air correction jet, isky's cam rev limited at 8k, .060 overbore, a hogged out head and a lot of rear tire vapors the worst I ever got was 13mpg I'm thinking you are way too rich!

Ok just talking back to basics here. Seeing I just got mine back on the road after god knows how long it's been in various workshops/garages around the place over how many years. Mine's a complete stocker mechanically, and what I'm trying to return it to aesthetically - difficult in Australia.
27 odd MPG sounds great from my point of view considering I've been working toward getting a relatively 'normal' roadster back on deck.
Good to hear I'm in the ballpark anyway. At the back of my mind I was hoping for a little better economy, but surely that's influenced by the insane fuel prices we're being hit with downunder. Can't complain though I get worse mileage outta my motorbike!
