Cool - this could be our Solvang!

My only gripe could be that I don't get on too well with the younger Nismo crowd - a lot of them don't even know what a Datsun is. But it could just mean I'm getting old.

I took this week off and addressed some issues that were buggin' me. I failed my state inspection because they were not impressed with my front tires slickness, "race depth" so I figured it would be a good idea to get an alignment since it has never had one and has new front tires. "Clyde" took two hours to do it because "his big ol hands didn't fit up there". Broke the Firestone time record. Oh I forgot to add they wouldn't allow me to drive it on to the rack. Employee #1 stalled it three times. Employee #2 stalled it two times until he removed his boots and I pulled the choke to rev up the engine, than he almost ran it off the end. Had the exhaust shop fix the buggered up pipe from the muffler to the tailpipe and add an O2 bung. The previous shop had taken the original pipe and stuck it about six inches into the muffler. It's now quite a bit louder. Than I added this doodad to see how well my butt dyno works on tuning the carbs.

Anyway, the point of this post is to see who is planing to go!

Should be a huge turnout this year. Nissan Corporate will be heading up a caravan visiting from Tennessee .

Nissan looking for road warriors to caravan from Tennessee to Texas for NISMO Fiesta

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Johnny Cash once sang, "T for Texas, T for Tennessee."* For adventurous Nissan owners, T could also stand for "travel" on a road trip between those two states on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25. Nissan is inviting owners, media and enthusiasts to join them on a trip from its Nissan North American headquarters in Franklin, Tenn. to the NISMO Fiesta event in San Marcos, Tex.

NISMO Fiesta is one of the largest grassroots Nissan owner’s festivals in the U.S., hosting more than 500 cars and 1,500 owners and enthusiasts from around the country. Taking place on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, the event features activities such as a Hill Country drive, track day and car show.

"Nissan globally is filled with car and truck enthusiasts, and road tripping to the NISMO Fiesta is a natural extension of our passion for cars and trucks," said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "The entire Nissan lineup is made up of ideal road-trip cars, SUVs and trucks; perfect for the nearly 900-mile drive to Texas. What better way to show them off than an informal drive!"

Joining road-tripping Nissan owners will be representatives from the Nissan Marketing, Social Media, Motorsports, Communications and Product Planning teams, with the latest Nissan vehicles, including the legendary GT-R, JUKE NISMO and more. Participants are requested to arrive at Nissan North America in Franklin, Tenn. at 7 a.m. CDT on Thursday, April 24. After a group photo, the caravan will depart and travel to Bossier City, Louisiana. Orr Nissan in Bossier City will host the group that evening for a meet and greet, and the cars and crew will stay overnight nearby. The next day the group will depart for San Marcos, where Nissan of San Marcos will host the group on Friday evening. (Full schedule below)

The road trip is open to any Nissan owner who would like to join the Nissan team on the entire drive or a portion thereof. Participants will be responsible for their own hotel arrangements and travel costs. Anyone wishing to join the caravan can simply come to Nissan Headquarters at 1 Nissan Way in Franklin, Tenn. on April 24 at 7 a.m. CDT, Orr Nissan in Bossier City at 6:30 p.m. CDT, at any point along the trip or at Nissan of San Marcos on April 25.

For those not able to join the road trip to the NISMO Fiesta, Nissan will be very active on social media using the hashtag #NISMOroadtrip on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. NISMO Fiesta details can be found at http://nismofiesta.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yeah but that means my roadster would have to make it to San Antonio lol.

I hate to be a pooh-butt but my for Christmas my wife signed me up for car control school on the 26th. That's where you purposefully spin your car on the skidpad w/ an instructor on board. Should be a fun and almost-new experience.

Wish I could make the Fiesta though!

Cheers

Epic Datsun Weekend....

I drove my 67.5 SPL311 to the NIsmo Fiesta show. After a late night carb /timing / head-light adjustment session with James...the roadster was ready to go.

Hit the road Solo at about Midnight (Friday) on my way to San Marcos, TX to the host hotel. Car drove great the whole way there. I arrived about 2:30AM, and there was parking lot taped off with at least 100+ Nissans..everything from the newer cars at the show...to a PL510, PL620. 610, 710..everything.

The next morning, I headed out on an EPIC cruise with more than 100+ Nissan carving through the hills of the scenic 'Hill Country' in Texas.

Image

Very well organized by the Zsport.org team, with 5 groups of cars driving in formation (each using a seperate Walkie talkie Channel band). After about 2+ hours of driving, we stopped the the Salt Lick BBQ for an all you can eat Lunch.

Image

Next was the continuation of the cruise down to Harris Hill raceway, were there were several dozen additional Nissan/Datsuns tearing up the track. Was able to runs a couple of Parade laps with the roadster.

Image

There was another roadster at the track..

Image

Later that evening was a nice dinner meet at a local classic car museum, with a DJ, Food truck and about 75+ cars. There was a 30 minute banquet where a couple of the key contributors were recognized for there support of the event & community.

Image

Sunday Morning, it was off to a commerorative Airport Base for the Dyno, Car Show, Auto-X, Raffle and Fun... NISMO was there with several cars and they were a great sponsor of the event. Must have been more than 250+ cars in attendance.

Image

Took home a 2nd place award, and posed for a group picture near the runway.

Image

Image

On the drive home the local Houston Z group, was kind enough to drive 65MPH (Speed limit was 75) all the way back to Houston.

Image

Probably Close to 500 Miles driven on the roadster this weekend. Definately a fantastic roadster weekend.

Way to go Dan - glad you were there to represent! I sure wish there were more classics involved and I could have been a part of it.

Most importantly though - did you get any pictures w/ Savannah?

OMG, that BBQ shot! That is a Texas-sized BBQ.
Seems like the perfect Southern/Midwest event for Roadster owners to attend. Need to publicize early and often next year.
For areas where a dedicated Roadster event might not work, blending one into another event-like the Datsun Matsuri for example, seems like a nice idea-More to do etc.

Linda
Sadly-Linda has passed away 2022. She was the 311's den mother and drove the first Rare-Parts ball joint project. RIP.
