Re: East Coast Roadster Restorers
Where is he/she located, and what type of restoration?
I know a place Roadster specific in NC for mechanical, and in FL for Mechanical - but not frame off or body specialists for Roadsters.

Re: East Coast Roadster Restorers
There are not many shops here in MD that even know about the Roadster. There are 2 shops that have screwed up others Roadsters though. Send me his info, or send him mine, and I can at least give him some ideas.
I remember when no one wanted the 1500s......

Shipping the car cross country to someone who is familiar may end up being cheaper and better in the long run.

Re: East Coast Roadster Restorers
Okay, some may think this is a dumb idea that should go back in the box!
If there are no experienced shops in MD, the owner might want to explore shipping the roadster (way) out of state to an experienced roadster restorer with a stock of replacement parts. If the car getting restored is more than an a hour away, most communication between shop and owner will be via phone and email with images and videos for update and explanation. Having an in-house supply of replacement parts will speed up restoration and ultimately lower costs.
A full shop frame-off restoration will probably cost > $60k. Productivity and parts availability should quickly compensate for the $1-1.5k transportation costs. As long as the owner does not travel every 2 weeks to personally see the progress, I think he or she would be far ahead.
I am not promoting or affiliated with any restorer!
Just an option to consider.

Re: East Coast Roadster Restorers
From personal experience - it is better to have some VERY close restore your car for you. Then when they make no progress for 3 months you can pop in and give them a piece of mind in person.

Also a very good point. There are times you want to see the car in person, like just before and after the paint goes on.jamesw wrote:From personal experience - it is better to have some VERY close restore your car for you.
