Repairing an early model console glovebox lock.

A little project to repair a broken latch pivot pin post on the console lock of a '65 SP310.

You can see the post for the pivot pin has broke out at the top.
Also as you would expect, the latch and return springs were no where to be seen


The plan is to use some 1/8" brass rod for the new pivot pin, some copper sheet to repair the pivot pin hole and late model steel latch and return springs from a spare console lock.


Here the new bits are coming together.


The pin has been cut long to give plenty of material to solder to the copper sheet.


Late model latch, return springs and new pivot all assembled and soldered.


The lock mechanism is from a later model and comes with a key, whereas my original lock didn't have a key.

So there you have it, an early model pot metal console lock retro fitted with a late model steel latch and lock mechanism

The copper horseshoe is formed to be in close contact but it is not bonded at all.
Fortunately the one intact post is enough to give strength to the repair.
The new pivot pin was bottomed out in the original holes when it was soldered in.
It doesn't move at all

I can always dribble some industrial adhesive into the joins but considering how littel use the catch will get, I'm confidant it will hold up OK.
